Do Not Call Registry

Post by DonnaT »

JUST A REMINDER....soon, all cell phone numbers are being
released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale
calls. ...YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS.... To prevent this, call
the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the
National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time.

Or register at https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

It blocks your number for five (5) years.
HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS OR GO TO:

Never Mind. It's apparently an urban legend.

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2005/04/dnc.htm
If you’ve received an e-mail telling you that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls as a result of a new cell phone number database, rest assured that this is not the case. Telemarketing to cell phone numbers has always been illegal in most cases and will continue to be so. In response to recent e-mail campaigns urging consumers to place their cell phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry, the Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission issue this advisory to give consumers the facts.

Hey, Donna -

That rumor has been running around for quite some time - I've received it about 4x in the past year alone, and from the same people - even though I've given them the article proving it false, from here: http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/c/ ... ectory.htm

In case anyone else would like to check out other 'rumors' like this, or anything else that sounds too good to be true, here are two excellent sites:

www.truthorfiction.com (or) www.snopes.com

FYI: The email circulating about free 411 ('directory assistance') calls is true; you can read more about it here: http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/f/free-411.htm

I get telemarketing calls all the time, except that they're for the person who had my telephone number previous to me. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten into nasty arguments with vendors who want to speak to Mr. Mendez, or Melendez, or whatever the heck his name was. A lot of the calls are en espanol, and I can hardly get in a "No me habla" before they hang up on me.
