Well I am half way up and running, this new OS is so much different then WinMe. To tell the truth I have had nothing but problems from the get go.
It all started just trying to figure how this new flat screen monitor hooked up, then none of my hardwear works and it's old will need new driver for XP. Then I find out none of my hardwear will connect as the fitting are pins and my pc is all ubs ports. Gee I hope I can get addapters so I don't have to stick out more money. Then I come to find out I don't get speakers with the outfit.
Old ones work (luckie me) . So all set up and now to download my ISP softwear, bang goes the pc it crashed had to call HP support on how to fix it. Next I call my local ISP and they talk me through and guess what?, I connect and nothing happens. Oh well another phone call this a.m. I had to use Netscape to get this far because IE would not connect???. Old well I still have the old pc set up in the livingroom for backup until I get this all figured out .
Later all my friends, Carol Ann
You know, hon, several years ago a friend of mine told me,"One day we are going to outsmart ourselves!" Yes, I think we may have just done it with these computers. The current one that I have I bought as a package, speakers, monitor etc. and it all worked. Just lucky I guess. My previous one was so eat up with viruses that it took it forever to do anything, this one is on the second fastest system that my provider has (Cox Communications) and it seems to work well for me. I am not a computer geek so if I push a button and it does not do what I want I am at a total loss!
Hang in there and I hope you get it all fixed!
Love,
Virginia
First star to the right, then straight on 'till mornin!
Welcome to the future, sister! Seriously, it can take a few tries to get everything to hang together just right--especially if you're connecting older hardware to your new machine. Just be patient; methodically update all your drivers (a pain in the butt, I know); purchase whatever wire adapters you need (serial/USB, USB1/USB2, etc., etc.); make sure your XP installation runs smoothly before adding hardware and/or software (if not, reinstall). Be careful; there are known issues, for example, with Windows ME Roxio CD drivers giving Windows XP major headaches (although, if your machine is entirely new and pre-loaded with XP, this shouldn't be an issue). Although WinXP will "retrofit" many older programs, some (designed for, say Win98) will not work unless you run them through XP's Compatibility Wizard. And, definitely, do not be afraid to ask for directions (many "guys" are, ya know! ); phone support when you need it. Good luck, Carol Ann!
Ah I thank you , yes I will admit I have made a few phone calls and so far all is well. My ISP is running as it should and the wife is very happy as now she can redownload all her games . Tonight will be update to what ever files I need. Unpacked my new HP printer and will hook it up tomorrow . I think I have the bull by the A** and it should be easy going from here on. Now next I have to learn how to use all this new stuff, hell it comes with things I never heard of. Another day in the life of Carol Ann. How I did get to dress all day today and I was very happy, the wife was on the new pc and I have to use the old one , what is a girl to do?.
Hi Carol Ann,
I found a lot of help on Cnet.com. It's a great site for just about anything electronic. It helped me build this computer from scratch and it works just fine. It could answer a lot of your question about XP and other things.
Carol Ann,
Dont you just love all this new age technology.Good luck with the hookup!I know it is quite frustrating, but Im sure you will get it figured out!
