TG Contractors

Post by Gerri »

Hi Girls,
I woke up this morning to a very, very cold house, I looked at the thermostat and it read 52 degrees :-k Lucky for me, I have a friend who is a HVAC Contractor and he said he would be over this evening. This whole incident got me thinking, If I have to spend money on my home, auto or whatever why not give it to someone I know and can trust.
I searched some of the back threads but couldn't find any info so here's my thought.
Why don't we start an area where girls who own a business or have a trade can post it. That way when something happens we can at least go to someone whom we can trust and know we won't get ripped off.
For example, my main business is real estate, but I also run a full service landscaping company and I serve my country in a part time capacity in the NG. I live and work in Southern Ocean County, NJ. I would be more than happy to help any members in any of those capacities, although I don't think you will have much need for any military assistance (except for major disasters or terriost attacks)
Well anyway that was my thought for today, let me know what you think.
Love,
Gerri

Nice thoughts, but just because they are TG doesn't mean you should trust someone any more than any other contractor.

References should be checked.

Donna,
I agree, references should be checked, my thoughts behind this idea were that there is, at least, a certain type of person who becomes a member here in the first place and judging from the comments and feedback left by most of the members, they all seem to be pretty caring and honest people, that at least is a good start. We can then make our own judgements when the time arises.
I thought that since all of us have to make a living (a new wardrode isn't cheap) what better way to network than with a group of your peers. I thought of a catchy name for the catagory, I need a ".........."
I know I need a new bay window, maybe someone in my area would be interested in giving me a quote.
Just something to think about.

That is not a bad Idea. Being that we are from all around the world here it is not very practical. I would however be interested in what people do for a living here. I think there was already a thread for that. If one of the mods can find it and post it.

Hey Ladies,

When I owned my own electrical contracting business, the last thing I would have wanted would be my company name posted saying I was TG. It's a double edged sword. On one hand it would be nice to share the wealth with out TG sisters, but on the other hand, it creates a published place verifying one is TG and connecting it to ones livelyhood. I realize that some who are fully out of the closet might not mind, but that would not be the majority, I would not think.

Love always,
Elizabeth

Seeing as how I live way out in the boonies I don't think my sisters would enjoy coming out here on a service call. Heck I have enought problems getting someone to come out. Lucky me I put in a wood burning stove and it does a real good job, also purchased a generator in case the electric goes out but only use it to supply power to the pump in the well house so I have water pressure. Living in New Orleans so long I still have all my oil lamps to light the house, as the song goes "this country boy can servive". :P

As Elizabeth has said , posting that one is a CD or TG is a double edge sword.
I own a business as well, however being in a very conservative and almost narrow minded part of the country, for me to go out, in this area, could possible be a dissaster.
It is nice to be able to support our sisters, however how we do it, must therefore be very discreet.
While I am out, when away from home, i am not out around home due to business reasons. For me to go shopping etc, I have to go at least hour and half from home, even then i am very vigulant as to who is around me.
Good luck, but be very careful

Sorry Girls,
I didn't mean to open up a can of worms and judging from the replies I think you all mis-understood my intentions. I would like to clarify how I envisioned this could work.
First of all, I myself have to maintain complete discretion and I don't go around advertising that I am transgendered (altough, since coming out to my wife I don't go completely out of my way to hide it), but since this forum would be our point of initial contact I assume that anyone responding is either TG or an SO. That being said, I wouldn't go out to give an estimate or provide a service while dressed, ( at least not openly).
To address the second issue, since we are a global membership I would think that only people living close to where the job is would respond. I wouldn't expect someone living in Calif. to respond to my request here in NJ.
Again, I only thought that this would be a great way to help each other out and I still would like to hear from any contractor in Ocean County, NJ who would be interested is giving me a quote to install a new Bay Window
Thanks again and I'm sorry if I ruffled any feathers. God Bless and I hope you all have a great Christmas and New Years.
Luv,
Gerri
