In exactly one month's time, I am going to attempt... STANDUP!!!
My friend Hahn is a comedienne. She is the headliner at a monthly show at a local bar here on Long Island. The show is hosted by a drag queen by the name of Ariel Sinclair. Well, Hahn had this idea that I lip synched and performed a song as one of the comics failed to show up last night. So basically I reprised the song I did at the Miss Auntie Ems pageant two weeks earlier!
But this gets better... after seeing the other amateur comics take the stage last night I said to myself - what the heck? For the next show next month I will take a stab at doing a standup routine myself! As Lorna of course!
At work today I was just jotting down material I could use (funny situations we get into as CDs, my crazy job, my childhood, GREAT stuff) Plus my friend Hahn offered to help me out as well.
This is so exciting!!!
Go to it, Girl. After reading your posts, I know you will do just fine. I do wish you could tape it and play for all of us. At least get someone to take pictures of Lorna on stage.

If I could do it...you surely will have no problem...have a great time and enjoy yourself up there.....I envy you already!
I have studied improvisational comedy (EX "Whose Line Is It Anyway" very hard BTW) and taken acting here and comedy writing classes in the city..But Stand-Up is my FAVORITE!!!!
"Let it Loose" on the crowd lovely Lorna, you're gonna be awesome!
Thanks so much girls! I'm real excited about this... I'm just going to have FUN when I'm up there!
My friend Hahn just e mailed me... she told me there is an open mic night where she bartends (she's a bartender in between comedy gigs) in 2 weeks. I can try out my stuff there... sort of a practice run!

Thanks hon!
I've always wanted to study comedy. Comedy writing, improv, you name it. I have always enjoyed the concept of laughter, and those who make others laugh for a living are heroes in my book... the world could always use more laughter, especially in these uptight times.
Improv comedy has also intrigued me for a very long time. When I was 18 I was just futzing around with the video camera and created a one man show, with little sketches & all. I just improvised as I went along! I showed the tape to my friends and they laughed, but they also told me I was NUTS... Mission accomplished!
In terms of general standup, I have been studying various techniques that comics use in terms of presence, delivery, etc...
But I shouldn't get ahead of myself. Hopefully my first time up there will go okay.
