Is over 40 years considered classic Lori?
Hey Lori
I have an appendix scar from 1963. Would that qualify for a Classic Scar?
Love
Jeannie
PS. Lori. It's not nice to make fun of old gezzers like Carol Ann. It's not her fault she's old. It must of been awful for her living through World War I, the Depression and running those steam powered letterpress. I hear she has a personally autographed picture of Teddy Rosevelt but it might be just a rumor. I don't think they had cameras back then so don't quote me on that one. Hugs

OOOO! Love those muscle cars!
I love the old muscle cars from the sixties. I had a 68 Road runner 2 door coupe. Black vinyl top,red line tires, black interior and a shifter when they were shifters! 383,four barrel Holley and a Hurst chrome beauty. Not these joy sticks they call shifters today. You pop the hood and you could actually see the engine. You could take out the spark plugs in ten minutes. You have to take the engine off the motor mounts in some cars today to get the freakin' plugs out! You go to the dealer for a tune up on a six and it costs $600.00. It's takes them 4 hours to get the plugs out!
Back in the day all you needed was a timing light, and 30 bucks for points, condenser, rotor and plugs. Now you have to take out a second mortgage to get a tuneup. I have an old J C Whitney automotive parts catalogue from 1968. You could buy a rebuilt chevy 327,325HP engine for $475.00! I don't care what anybody says. Nothing sounded like those engines from back in the day with open headers. Sweet!
Love
Jeannie
PS Those new Hemis aren't even Hemis! They're bogus! Computers have no business being under the hood of a car! Get the heck out of there! They're taking over the world!

Yeah, nuttin like those muscle cars. Second fastest I have ever been (I got my V-8 Jag to 150 once) was in a GTO coming off Montrey Mountain on I-40 outside of Cookeville, Tennessee we hit 140 and it was awesome!
Of course on two wheels, my VTX 1800 says 140 on the speed - o - meter but with only four square inches of rubber on the pavement, anything over say 110 gets scary
Just kidding, honey - then again, I don't know what it will do with two girls on it?!?
Love ya,
Virginia

I was into SAABs until GM bought them... Grrrrrr. Had a 74 and a 72 Sonett III. Nothing like an Italian designed, Swedish built, two seater fiberglass front wheel drive sports car... With a german forklift engine... Brake system by Lockheed, Bosh ignition and Lucas electricals... Hehe. Also had an 86 900S..
Gave the 900 to my sis-in+law, sold the 72 sonett and after many years of great riding, the 74 Sonett sucumbed to rust so I parted it out using Ebay... I miss that car.. Here's a photo - http://new.photos.yahoo.com/karrenhutto ... 21737228/4
Now I'm into reliable Toyotas... But boreing!!
Love Karren

I used to own a 64 galaxy with a 289 bored out to 302 with everything under the hood chromed out with edelbrock on it. It had a huge Edelbrock four barrel carb. It got about 12 MPG but was very fast. When I owned it I lived in good size city in California where they average type of car was a tuned Honda or Nissan. I loved to pull up to a light where a punk had a tuned compact and they thought they were hot and leave them at the light.

The kids nowadays don't even know what points are let alone how to set them. I can still set them with a screw driver and a book of matches. They act as a feeler gauge to set ythe gap and you can use the striker to clean up the contacts.
Ah! The gold ole days. Some fond memories all right. They don't make like they used to. Too bad.
Love,
Lisbeth

Holy cow!
You gearheads you! I just gave my motortrends, and hot rod magazines to a good gearhead childhood friend who was buying them on ebay. He loved them I had about 100 of them.
I know what you mean Karen. GM will buy another great car company and in a few short years screw it up. Luckily they just sold Aston Martin for about 900 million dollars to raise cash. That Vanquish S is a sweet ride. I'm trying out for the next Bond movie so I can drive one. I've been practicing all month for my audition.
"What's your name?"
"Jeannie......Jeannie Bond" I can't miss. I'll be on the casting couch so fast it will make your head spin!Hugs
Love
Jeannie the next Bond girl!
PS. In the lastest Bond movie they roll a Vanguish and I thought it was computer generated but I saw a behind the scenes documentary and they really rolled it. $275,000 dollars down the crapper. I was crying!

Hi Lisbeth and Jeannie
You girls make me yearn for the good old days. You were able to change plugs, set the points and time the car with regular tools. I was working on the car and had a know all young person going to the auto parts store for a "muffler bearing". He lost his sense of humor when the guys made a few remarks to him.......
Hugs

'61 Dodge Dart 2 dr sedan. Pulled out the slant 6, put in a 413 "semi-hemi" with dual cross ram manifolds from a '62 Chrysler 300. Never ran right, but sure made lots of noise. BTW, the Chrysler 300 I found in the junk yard had swivel seats, seemed silly to me at the time, but now I know how they would help a gal in a dress exit gracefully

CARS
Hello all: I do not own a car or have a driver's license.
I feel that the extensive use of private automobiles is helping destroy what remains of our planet's open space and is of course adding to global warming... (I will also admit that I do not want the responsibility or expense of driving and automobile maintenance.)
BUT... yes... there is always a but...
Some things will always be cool, like a 1957 Chevrolet with those snazzy tail fins! Or a 1950's Studebaker designed by Raymond Loewy (name may not be spelled correctly). Or a classic Rolls Royce, Jaguar, or Bentley... (yes, I am an "Anglophile...")
And when I was four or five years old, I remember sitting on my father's parents' front porch of their Baltimore row house, watching all those 1950's cars go by on Reisterstown Road-- and especially loving the Baltimore taxi cabs with all their crazy color schemes (which SOME Baltimore cab companies still use!!)
Cars from the late 1940's through 1958 or so looked a lot better than cars today, most of which are either small and boring, or large, ugly, and wasteful.
A gay men's vintage car club has brought cars to display at the PRIDE festival in Washington, D.C. almost every year I've attended. I usually wear one of my cheerleader outfits for that event, and now have a few cute photos posing next to neato vintage cars. Cheerleaders and cars do go together.
I also always liked those chunky CHECKER "marathons" and if I ever did buy a car, it would so cool to have a CHECKER running on say, solar power...
On a related matter-- any streetcar fans reading this? I've discovered that a subset of the TG community are intense streetcar and
train fans!
Well, as on so many things, I am conflicted on the subject of cars.
But as I said above, there are some things that are just transcendent, and a 1957 Chevrolet, Raymond Loewy designed Studebaker or a classic ROLLS or BENTLEY just ooze coolness. Those are just examples of perfectly designed and created objects. No one can disagree with that.
If anyone reading this (in the Washington, D.C. area) has a great vintage car (1950's through early 1970's) that "cheerleader" could pose with, please send me a "personal message" and we'll work out the logistics.
Talk to y'all again soon.
Peace'n'Luv-- Kendra Lynn.
