mp3

I have recently started converting my music collection to mp3 format. I have a good set of software and tools to do the conversion. However I find keeping track of what I have in all the different formats is problematic.
Can anyone recommend a database software for keeping track of all this stuff? I have been using a normal spreadsheet, but it is still very time consuming. Looking on the internet, there seems to be so many different ones , its just kind of overload.
TIA

Not sure I follow Sylvia.

From what I understand, I would just creat a file called music with sub-files for each format.

Then search, for example, *.mp3 and move all those files to the sub-file labeled MP3.

Sylvia,

Much of my music is on mp3. I store them on DVD's which allows me to keep fifty or so albums on one disc.

On my PC I have an external drive with numbered folders for my mp3 files. Each folder contains the same as one DVD, and has the same id number.

I manage my nmusic video's in the same way

As far as a database is concerned well, I think that is over complicated.
Its by far asier to keep a simple cardex if anything at all.

cheers

Thanks,
After talking to a few people , it sounds like the spreadsheet isnt such a bad idea after all. Its an ambitious task ti be sure as I have audio in every cioncievable format and attempting to convert LPs, 45s, cassettes, Yes even 8 tracks, DAT and reel to reel , not to mention the video in 8mm, VHS, yes Beta, and some digital stuff. Trying to archive everything on DVD or CD.

Or maybe I should leave everything to the kids to figure out. :) If there is anything better to use than a spreadsheet, Im still all ears.

Look into GraceNote which will go out on the web and download all the information into your files.

Hi Sylvia.

I hope this solves your problem with keeping up with what you have and where they are located.

What i do is when i have updated the information (Tagged) the album's and after i burned them to disks is that I use a prog called "MPEG Audio Collection" or MAC for short. it keeps the nessasary information required with easy to follow instructions.
