An interesting page at tufat.com (FlashChat) - Closed

I was trying to find some info on the disconnects that some of us experience while using FlashChat. I've tried to do this sort of thing before with no success - apparently the direct approach is not destined to succeed. I stumbled across a FAQ (http://forum.tufat.com/showthread.php?t=2677) at forum.tufat.com with some interesting reading.

In particular, see the topic "Users being booted or kicked out of FlashChat" on that page, the configuration parameter autologoutAfter especially. The disconnects have several possible causes, dialup connections being a possibility mentioned (I'm guilty as charged, here; but then we're not exactly trafficking in a lot of multimedia in FlashChat). autologoutAfter defaults to a value of 60 (seconds). A suggested workaround is to bump the value up to 120. I don't know whether anyone has looked into this specific bit of configuration before - if they have, never mind; otherwise, it might be well worth investigating. It might not be a panacea, but it might just help. :)

I hope it works - I don't know how many times or in how many different contexts I've seen configs that were about as useful as an ornamental thermostat. 8-[

Changed from 60 to 120, Saturday 9/26 about 6:20 pm Eastern Time.
Hope it helps! :sigh:

Hi Caith

It still seems to be happening.

In my experience the time out is irrelevant. I have been logged in on occasion for more than an hour with no keyboard activity and not been logged out, conversely I have been typing and bam - login again Susan

Something mysterious in the code?

Best wishes

Susan: Thanks for letting us know. I suspected the change might not help as this is a commonly reported FlashChat problem. Discussions at the tufat.com forum suggested it could be a server loading issue, and with the forum hosted virtually (I believe) that might be the case. But I've never seen the forum be terribly slow running the phpBB message board, so I don't believe that's it either. It may be the virtual hosting interferes with some code deep within FlashChat, but there's no real way to know, in my experience.
