I hope that I am doing this right....don't want to get kicked off so
soon after I started.

Alot of the post were posted 2 to 3 years ago. Alot of them seem very
interesting and I would like to write a reply. Will the person that wrote
the post be aware that someone 3 years after the post has replied??
Or will the reply go totally unnoticed.

First, welcome to the forum. I think you'll enjoy it here.

About older posts, the answer is yes, new replies to older posts will be noticed. When you reply to an older post, even to one that's over five years old, the thread gets "bumped up" in the section, meaning that it now moves up to the top of the list and gets its own little "spinning" icon to signify that there are now new replies in that thread. This is called "resurrecting a thread." Note that you cannot reply to locked threads.

As to whether or not the original poster (the "OP") is still around to reply to your reply, well, that's another question. Membership in virtual communities such as this one is sometimes fickle; people come and go... and sometimes come back. One thing I can tell you, though, is that, whether or not the original poster is still an active member of the forum, you will get replies from anyone interested in participating in that thread.
