Avatar size? - Answered

This message is just to test the new avatar image I have chosen to display. It is unfortunate we are given such a small size restriction. Isn't the 20K limit enough? At 90x90 pixels, I couldn't use up half that 20K. I hope you like my new pic!

other formats such as some .gif's might use more bytes even though the same size (right, beauty?). You have my vote for a larger avatar setting. How about 100x100 pixels?

Hi,
90x90 is fine for now. It has moved from 70x70 up to 90x90 over the years.
Genifer you look very pretty in your avatar!

Thanks Beauty.
One thing I noticed after changing my avatar is that it is an active display. All past posts now use the same pic which is nice.
As for the size, I can understand bandwidth concerns, but why the concern for pixel size? What effect does pixel size have if the data size of the image is still kept small?
Just wondering.

Hi Genifer,
I don't really think it has anything to do with the bandwidth. It has more to do with the formatting of the site. The 90x90 size for members helps keep the site looking uniform, like with the avatars being longer than posts. It helps the site to be more readable.
We can't say if there's a right or wrong way, we just decided to keep it like this, but we have made changes and allowed the pixel size to move up. Who knows maybe it will change again one day.
