Hair
Hi ladies
Being a Ginny I thought I'd be hairy but I'm not at all. They only time I had a beard was when I dating Mini and she wanted me to grow one. She had this hairy man issue. Go figure.
I'll post a picture of Moi when I was dating Mini. My beard comes out red. It's real creepy. Shaving is no problemo for me. I pluck the six hairs off my chest and shave my gams once a week in the bubble bath. I love it.
Basically I look like a Mexican hairless Chahuahua. If you GGs like hairy guys, move on down the line. Yuk! Hugs ladies.

Hi all
I had my 5th laser treatment yesterday, 3 more to go. My particular type laser is every 6 weeks, so many different brands. My tech says I handle it well for a male (the pain treshold)...little does she know
But I had thought of the beard thing also, that I could never grow one again. Well, I had one once (just to see if I could) and its not important to me. I just wish I had done this years ago...no more shadow, light makeup and so easy to shave the white rascals. As I tell my SO, its not easy being a girl....but worth the effort
Hugs

Good for you gals taking the plunge. As Donna said, if you're always clean shaven anyway, what's the difference? That was exactly my argument when I had the conversation with my wife late last year about my own desire to begin electrolysis. She was ok with the decision and has been very supportive too which was an important first step. Yes, there is no going back, but in the 25 years we've known each other, she has never seen me with facial hair so....I got under way a few months ago.
Based upon my colouring though, I was not a good candidate for laser, so my choices were limited. However, after three sessions (12 hours) so far, I can already see a difference. Apart from the first few minutes of my first session, the pain I was expecting wasn't anywhere near as bad as I had thought it would be. Like Kimberley, my electrologist warned me the upper lip would be a different story and she was true to her word. While it did push my pain threshold close to its limit at times, the frequent breaks to work on other areas, made it bearable. Definitely much tougher the closer she got to my nose, which did occasionally call for some mind over matter. Knowing that each insertion (zap) was one more closer to the end certainly helped.
Recovery does vary from person to person. During the three days it took me to recover from my first session, I worried that my face would never be the same. But since then, it's been much quicker as my face has begun to adapt to the treatment. As an aside, my electrologist also makes house calls and at my last session, got to meet the family, which made the experience all the more relaxed.
So yes, I plan to be in this for the long haul and (cash flow permitting
) hope to get it completed within two years. My excitement as each session approaches (this weekend) should be enough to keep me going, albeit with a little impatience at seeing the finished results.

It's been just over a week.
Okay, so that's not exactly a lot of time in the grand scheme of things. I'm expecting somewhere between 5-7 treatments in total to get the impact I'm looking for and I was told that there might be some irritation and redness for up to two weeks. It is also supposed to take two weeks before all the hair that was going to fall out as a result of the first treatment does so.
The redness and irritation are fairly pronounced and the most annoying side-effect is that I can't get anywhere near as close a shave as I'm used to! As a result I've had a serious 2-day shadow going since the treatment. I did check in with the woman who is doing my treatments and she said it wasn't uncommon for people with fair skin and suggested that it might actually be a reaction to the numbing gel. I may try to do without it next time, just to see. Things are starting to return to normal so I hope to be less self-concious about it next week.
On the more positive side? Hairs are already starting to loosen, and these tend to have a notably different appearance enabling many of them to be easily tweezed away. The impact won't be dramatic but it's clearly measurable. I can't say I'll be going to Diva Las Vegas with less of a makeup challenge, but this time next year? I expect to have lost most of that "scruffy" appearance that even a close shave can't entirely erase today.

I haven't posted in a while, largely due to the hectic schedule of getting ready for Diva Las Vegas and then the "re-entry" into life afterwards. Before it gets away from me I wanted to record a few observations ...
Two weeks after the treatment my skin was pretty much back to normal. I was finally able to get a close shave again (just in time for my public debut in Las Vegas!) and assess what impact the first session really had. What did I think? It was actually pretty evident that my facial hair was sparser than before. There were a few small patches where it was almost entirely absent and nowhere that seems completely unaffected. My skin felt smoother and softer than before even a full day after I shaved.
It's now pretty much a month after my first treatment and things haven't changed any since the two week mark. Now it's just time to sit back, let healing and re-growth happen and keep the sunscreen in place until my next session in late June.
