I need a wig

I have to have brain surgery next week, surgery on my facial nerve in the back of my skull actually. Anyway a good part of my head will need to be shaved and my GF/SO suggested we buy a wig for me to wear but I know nothing about them can someone offer me some advice please?

If she knows about your crossdressing then go for a cute fem style.. If she doesn't then try for a unisex style that can look good in either mode. I'd look online for a local wig shop and go in and try some on.. Good luck with your surgery!!

Yes she does know and support my dressing and I was thinking of a short wig so I will start shopping and thanks for your kind wishes I have a nasty condition called trigeminal neuralgia so the pain from the surgery is worth it for some good results. I just want to add that I could not face this without my SO she just awesome and I wish I could be ( and look) just like her.

My advice is go to a wig shop for it - don't get one online. That way you will get the right wig for you.

I know this is true having waisted money on wigs myself in the past.

I google trigeminal neuralgia and god that sounds terrible!! Your lucky to have someone like that to help you through this.. I agree.. Short hair is very today and so cute.. And way more passable than most crossdressers think. You have two choices.. Synthetic or real human hair. Good synthetics are very nice and low maintenance and keep their style but they can't be restyled, curled or colored... Human hair is just like real hair and takes a lot of work but is very natural looking. Good synthetics are also natural looking and I have shifted towards them over the past 5 years.. Also, I have had a good success rate buying wigs online from 3 online stores but I would recommend you go to a local shop and get a proper fitting..

You'll want a lace wig for summer wear. It has a more breathable wig cap made of lace. Shopping in person is the best way to go.

Thanks for the video links Donna NOW I"M REALLY NERVOUS

(just kidding).
My neurosurgeon actually showed me a short video like that but in his video even more hair was shaved off and his nurse did recommend a wig store near the hospital and the University where my GF and I work so we are going there together tomorrow. Then we are going shopping for some comfortable things for me to wear when I get home, I wanted a new nightgown anyway.

Blaithin, I too suffer from TGN. At a time when I was on high doses of meds to control the pain and was reacting to the meds I thought about surgery. I wish you the best outcome with the surgery.

Thanks and I am sorry to hear that you also suffer from TGN, do the meds help control your pain?
I am currently taking Lyrica which gives me some relief but I am told that the MVD surgery I am having this Thursday will do the trick.
My sister and I found a wig for me at a local shop, it is a short synthetic style and very light and comfortable.
I think it will do nicely.

Blaithin, I hate to hear of anyone with TGN. I have said that I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy although that may be going a little far.

I have been able to keep the pain under cotrol with medication. At one point I was up to 2000 mg/day of carbomepthapine, but have since been able to reduce the med to about 400/mg on a bad day and most days none.

At one point I considered surgery and was advised against it as long as the pain could be conroled with meds as the surgery is not always successful.

I was reacting to the meds at the high dose and had to back them off. It felt like I was on a drunk without the fun of the drink. That was not a good feling to have as I was driving truck at the time.

I am lucky now in that I do have a warning before the real pain kicks in so I have time to take the pills and have them start to work before the pain gets too serious.

Since being dinogised, I have also used acupuncture and chiropractic. I believe they have helped, but they are long term and not the instant relief of pain that we lookfor when TGN is active.

Well the surgery is over and now I am 100% TN pain free and my surgeon thinks it will stay away. My GF/SO brought me home from the hospital this afternoon and I just woke up from a long nap and after I eat and take some more pain meds it's back to bed.
My attire for the next few days is a short linen nighty and some panties.
As for the wig, my scalp has a 3 inch incision behind my left ear so I do not no when I can tolerate anything touching it.
