The first crossdressing film I remember

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

The first crossdressing film I remember

Post by Anita »

I had forgotten all about this Disney cartoon, but it was one of the first times I saw crossdressing on TV. This came out in 1949, so I saw it in the mid-50s when I was 4 or 5. It's the classic CD scenario--the hero breaks out of prison by disguising himself as a girl. It was the character who "sprung" him that impressed me, though. Even though "she" is a horse...

This little film thrilled me, since it also featured trains as part of the escape. They were early 20th-century English locomotives, which looked kind of strange to me, but the basic railroad elements were all there.

Yeah, I like the horse as well. Interesting that it's someone in drag who's getting someone else into drag...

I don't remember CDing stuff on the TV - though I'm sure there was some. I've mentioned this before without linking it - but the thing that really made an impact was (I think) a trailer of a Jerry Lewis movie which had him in a corselette. This scene appears in:

Bill and Ted: That's us, dude.

What seems like the right thing to do could also be the hardest thing you have ever done in your life.

One of the all time favorites is Bugs Bunny in drag. I still remember the cartoon where he gets all dressed up with make up and lipstick. many TV stars used to do Drag. Melton Burl did drag a lot. Red Skeleton used to do Drag too. Drag and Crossdressing have been on TV off and on for almost as long as TV has been on the air.

As JoAnn said...I remember that as a kid watching Bugs Bunny dressed in drag, or I think Tom and Jerry did it once- (I mean it was common)- I always felt a special giggly sort of joy from it that I didn't understand. Even being that young I understood it was sort of taboo, and that made it kinda sexy. As for film...I would have to say To Wong Foo... was the first time I really saw the issue explored. Mind you, it was drag queens, kinda cartoony in a sense, but finding a movie that sincerely deals with CD is rare.

My favorite CD related movie though- Spanish director, Pedro Almodovars' Bad Education. Wonderful, crazy, dark movie and he seems to have CDing in every movie he makes.

Strictly speaking, I might have seen Bugs before I saw this one. There was something riveting about the Disney one, though. The movies and TV shows that were around in the mid-fifties didn't "speak" to me.
It wasn't until Some Like it Hot in 1959 that I saw some drag that appealed to me, outside of cartoons.

I once saw a boy dressing up as a middle aged Woman on an Australian series called Magic Boomerang in about 1966. I know I am going off topic a bit here but I will never forget reading a Jimmy Olsen comic as a child and saw a story when he had to go undercover as a chorus girl. Needless to say I envied him.

There was a daytime Soap where this one man was transistioning MtF. I only saw 2-3 episodes, but from what I saw, it dealt with real life problems. The person that was transistioning was played by a man because in one episode I saw he was in male mode and the other two he was in female mode. even in female mode you could tell he was a male. He also was not one of the main characters because a couple months later, I heard that character disappeared from the show.

Anyone remember the Soap Name?

A very beautiful and touching story 0f a transgendered woman is the DVD "Another Woman". It is played by Nathalie Mann and is in French with

English sub titles. He wants to reconnect with his children and after some trying times he succeeds and his wife even accepts him.
