I liked Ralitsa's comment about using genetics to get us off the hook. I often think we do the same thing with the transgender aspect of this to get us off the hook for the sexual aspect of it.

Donna I think the whole identical twin situation where one is trans and one is not is fascinating. There has been research that pretty definitively shows that some transgenderism is biologically based, but I don't think they've shown that all of it is, and given the variety I'd really doubt they will ever find all the causes. But identical twins likely have the same in utero environment as well, and many of the same socialization experiences. It's a surprising outcome in any causative scenario.

As of today I am convinced! my cross dressing is in my jeans. At the weekend the zip "went" in my final remaining pair of men's Levis, I have replaced the today with another pair of a ladies jeans from M & S, so all my jeans are now female.

Arlene I agree it is in the genes. I felt that I should have been a girl from a very early age. I am the youngest of three boys and my Mother wanted a girl, although she always brought me up to be a man and frowned upon any of the feminine traits that I had.

Agree with Donna T I find it interesting that intersexed babies are born with ambiguous genetalia, and we know the structure or functioning - how males and females use their brain are definitely different, females have certain skills they are better at than males and vice versa. I do believe there can be something in the structure of our brain to explain who we are. I suppose I could dig further and check google for studies on this topic but they may be rare or nonexistent - I have never really looked, and why would anyone spend alot of money to research such a topic? Perhaps crossdressers should be asked to donate to a study and some can volunteer for eeg's, brain scans pet scans or mri's and compair the results between Male, female, and crossdresser brains to see what lights up. I bet it would be quite interesting to find that crossdressers brains light up for certain male patterns, and also for certain female patterns. It would be an interesting study for us at least.

I believe that all people are wired in a certain way, my wiring is hooked into a feminine way of life.

I didn't think there was any serious belief that males and females do think and act the same way. It's been pretty obvious since the beginning of time that there are differences. The problem I feel comes from trying to attach undue significance to those differences, or trying to specify acceptable behaviors according to ones gender, or its inverse of trying to define gender according to ones behavior.
We can talk about associations, but that doesn't prove causality. I can accept that many people feel they are trapped in the wrong sort of body, I don't understand that feeling, I can only accept what they report. But I don't see much reason to worry about what causes it because even if we could know the answer I don't think the information will help us any. Perhaps I'm wrong about that, maybe some people will feel better to have the answer.
As for myself, unlike Paula I know it's not in my jeans, I wear only skirts and dresses
