garter belts

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

Interesting question..... and possibly embrassing situation!

It would really depend on the detectors settings. I have gone through many with my watch, bracelet, and belt on... never setting it off. Other times the foil from a pack of cigarettes have. I've heard from some GGs about the underwire in their bras setting them off.
Personally, I would err on the side of caution and either not wear a garter belt when I know I would have to go through a scanner, or go with one that has the plastic eyes.

I would agree with Paulie, the plastic is on one hand good that it probably would not set off the equipment, but on the other hand the plastic is not nearly as durable as the metal. Second, I would give serious consideration to travelling "en femme." Just on girl's opinion.

Hi Jeff,

It's probable that it could. If you are comfy with others knowing your gender expression and having a few uncomfy moments then don't worry. If you want to avoid that just put them in your carry on and put them on again in the the men's stall. I'd go to the final stall in the restroom to do your best to stay hidden. Actually I wouldn't do this at all, but if you're looking for a kind of thrill then I'd suggest that over going through security and risking it.

Besides, going to a stall would be just as adventurous as going through security, but at least you'd have the anonymity of a closed door. They'd only be able to see your shoes. :)

Jeff

Personally, I wouldn't risk it if I were you. In a post 9-11 world, you should assume airport security are ready and willing to put you through an uncomfortable experience if they thought you were hiding something or if they wanted to make a big deal of something you were wearing. If it's the thrill you're looking for, wait until you get through, and as Gracie said, head to the nearest washroom to put them on.

I did once wear pantyhose under my jeans (without socks) on a flight and remember worrying about security frisking me and finding out. Then I imagined being frogmarched to the nearest jail. That was before 9-11 but I would worry less about doing that now as opposed to having the detector go off because I had something on me which I couldn't take out of a pocket.

No intent to be morbid, but airplanes are no place for nylon clothing anyway. Stick to cotton and leather (and Nomex if so inclined) because they will not stick to your skin if very bad things happen. Things happen. Sassy cotton knee-highs are nice.

There are also other threads on the topic of commercial air travel that are still relevant here.

garter belts

Hi. A lot of the newer garters have plastic so should not be a problem at the airport, I just came through wearing a bra. Bobbie Joe

Hi girls,

Let us not get paranoid now. Airport metal detectors are not set that sensitive. They do not pick up the metal clasps of bra straps, rivets on jeans, most belt buckles, girdle clasps, metal buttons on jeans such as Levi's 501's and other small metal parts of clothing.

There is no reason not to travel "en femme" and I assure you when I travel to Canada this year, it will be "en femme" as I no longer wear men's clothing.

I have been selected to take my shoes off, and go to the room or table to be patted down "en drab" almost every time I fly, I figure because of having long hair and both my ears pierced. It is no less embarassing being "en drab, and I assure you that anyone who travels with any frequency at all, has already been singled out for extra searches at least once.

I do beleive that airport security have already been trained about crossdressers and transsexuals. However, they do have to be aware of those who are in disguise. I would suggest smiling and being yourself.

Love always,
Elizabeth

!!!yes!!! with Elizabeth!

I'm in contact with Jane Ellen Fairfax, of Tri-Ess, and she told me that when Tri-Ess had their Holiday En Femme recently, she and several others all traveled en femme - - and they did not have a single problem among them. They were all arriving from different states, and thus different airlines - and all was fine.

Jane Ellen did say that airport security is trained about crossdressers and transsexuals, as are almost everyone else in the 'service' industry - including store and restaurant personnel.

I would suggest smiling and being yourself - - just like Elizabeth suggests!

I wear a garterbelt daily and frequently travel. Not only are the garters metal but so are the adjusting clips. I've never had the metal detectors go off as I've gone through. Hell, I wear a fairly substantial metal watch and that doesn't set off the metal detectors. I must admit, though, that the first time I went through I was a bit nervous. If they had routed me to a more intimate screening, they sure would have been surprised!
