I was forty-nine. My wife asked if I would wear a bra if she bought me one and I half-heartedly said ok. I'm not sure why she asked, if it was just something to spice up our sex lives or what, but now I'm sure glad I agreed. that was just over two years ago and I'm still loving it. My wife accepts and encourages the bras and panties and occasionally the nail polished and shaving but not much more which is fine with me.
I'm rather curious why I embraced this interested so late in life and would love to hear from other girls who began in their forties or later to see if I can reach an understanding.

I think it's so interesting to see when most started CDing.
Guess it shows something in common with us. I like Donna's take on when you first try on something fem. I think it really does set you up for something you'll never want to stop.
I think I was around 11 or maybe 10. I guess I was just curious as my mother's gridles and stockings were hanging to dry in the bathroom. I tried them on.... and here I am!
For many years I didn't know why I wanted to dress, and as I was younger, I didn't really question it. I thought it was mostly a sexual thing for me anyway. But, as you get older... and go through some purges... and learn from others... I've come to understand myself a little better.
I've said before.. you have to be true to yourself and live a fulfilled life.
I'll never stop doing something that I enjoy so much!

I was 11 or 12 when I first started trying on women's clothing. I tried on my mom's swimsuit and girdles. Also tried on various items from the Goodwill collection bags stored at our house.
Have continued off and on for about 45 years gradually becoming more and more sophisticated in how I present myself. While I have been out for a few short walks at night and have gone en femme to the office Halloween luncheon once, I am still pretty much in the closet. Am looking forward to more out and about efforts.
All of my dressing and makeup is self-taught by watching my wife and daughter, and reading articles and books. With very little help, I feel that I have finally reached a point that I can present my self as a woman and be accepted as such.
Love ya!

My first time was at age 8. I remember it very well, almost like yeaterday. I found myself alone in the house and I went to my sisters bedroom, took all of my clothes off and dressed up in her green jumper. I remember it so well because the feelings felt so natural. I didn't experience another CD event until age 14 (purberty, of course).

I started at age 5, took a pair of my mom's pantyhose which she had washed and hung to dry in the bathroom, and put them on. I danced on my bed to the ridicule and amusement of my older brother.

I feel like there are a few dates I could say that I began....
Like many others here, I tried on my mom's clothes at a very young age, but I don't really remember how early that would have been. So that was a start.
Then, at about eight, I told my mom I wanted to be a girl for Halloween, and she very nicely made me an outfit with a skirt, blouse, jacket, wig and handbag. This was my first real dressing experience. I remember two things: first, whacking some boys that taunted me with my handbag, and second, how very good and natural it felt.
I think that this early "coming out" was very good... I remember always feeling comfortable daydreaming about being a girl, and also feeling comfortable being around girls and feeling femme...until I reached puberty.
Until well into college, I don't remember dressing, except for a few furtive times that I put on my gf's lingerie when she wasn't around. Then, a few things came together: I had my own apartment, above my best friend and his wife, then my girlfriend left, and then my friend left his wife. She and I began to hang out mornings before her work, and evenings. She cried a lot on my shoulder, and we became close....like girlfriends.
....then it gradually happened. In the mornings, I came down earlier and earlier until I was there while she dressed and did her make-up. She liked me there, for confidence and help and company...and god knows! I loved to be there. I "borrowed" a few of her things and wore them up in my room, and the wonderful feelings came back.
Some mornings, after she left, I would play in her wardrobe and with her makeup. Then one morning she forgot something, came back home, and there I was, in pretty full dress! At first she was angry, but then, after a day or two, she cooled down. We talked. She had to admit, that she had suspected that I was very interested in girl's things, and so in one way she wasn't surprised, only shocked by seeing me.
That Friday night we got a little drunk together, and she suddenly wanted to dress me up. WOW!
So, that's my third "beginning". Well, it's a long answer, but I guess, at different ages we need to begin again!
