Dr. Phil - Fraud or Idiot?!?

I didn't get to see this show (I don't usually watch it), but I was asked to comment on it. My boss wanted a TG person's perspective. At this time, I've only seen a couple of clips, but I do have a few feelings on the subject. I don't normally agree with Dr. Phil, but he was right about one thing. There is a right way to handle coming out to your family. Disappearing from the lives of your children for two years while you sort yourself out, then coming back and telling them, "Your father is gone!" doesn't sound like the way.

I've watched Springer and Phill. I don't put much stock in either one. Even when Springer was on "Dancing With The Stars", I think we all saw a different side of him. Yet there seems to be skeletons in his own closet. The same with Phill, but they're the ones making millions. Hummmm! I have skeletons. Why can't I make millions.

My opinion of Phil McGraw is very low. I will not call him a Dr. as her has not earned a PHD in anything as far as I know. The fact that he is gives weight loss advise and needs to lose weight himself. I am no knock out as far as my weight however I am starting to work on it. As for him giving advice on love, his wife left him. Need I say more.

An interesting footnote in regards to the youtube postings of this show...

If you look at the comments section on a few of the 5 parts, there is someone posting under the names of the two daughters. If this is indeed the daughter(s) responding to people that support the father (or TG in general), then there is more of a problem here than any of us will ever know fully.
If it IS them... they have a lot of growing up to do. Especially since what is posted is contrary to how they acted on the program.

Dr. Phil is a genious. He parlayed a few visits on Oprah into a multi million dollar enterprise. Idiot? I think not. I'm trying to get on Oprah's show. Maybe I can get my own program. "Auntie Jeannie's advice for the lovelorn."
My advice would probably ruin most peoples lives like my own, but this is America. If someone waves 50 million dollars in front of your face go for it.
I like all you ladies on here but if I was offered that kind of money I'd throw you all right under the bus.
I must disagree with you that Dr. Phil doesn't really have a Phd. He received his degree from the University of Phoenix on line while working as the night manager at a Seven Eleven. That alone qualifies him as a people person with great understanding of human nature just like Sarah Palin.
She said in her interview with Katie Couric that she has two foreign countries on either side of Alaska. Russia and Canada. Don't laugh!
I live in Connecticut and live 50 miles from the Groton Sub base and have taken a tour of the Nautilus. I'm an expert on Nukler submarines. As a matter of fact i'm building a Trident sub in my back yard with my neighbors who also took the tour. It's called knowledge by osmosis. "If you're near it ,you know it."
One tip for all you voters in this great country. Never vote for a Republican or Democrat again. Do what I'm doing this year. I'm casting my write in vote for Pee Wee Herman. Yes ladies. He has the best qualifications. He was commander and chief of Pee Wee's Playhouse for two whole years.He can't lose. Hugs.

People of this type like Rush L. and Sean Hannity etc have cretaed a logic sytem in their heads that makes perfect sense in their context. The problem is that they resist or refuse for some reason to accept that there are other contexts. They consequently cant respond to anyone outside their self created box. They just cant hear new information.

Whenever I hear (or read) someone make such blanket statements, which I know not to be true, I cringe. I listen to Rush daily. I subscribe to his newsletter and his website. I know what kind of personality Rush has. I guarantee that Rush is far more tolerant and accepting of non-traditional lifestyles than most of the "tolerant" liberals we see and hear in public life. What I've found is that most who make blanket statements haven't really listened or read or gotten to know those about whom they speak.

Sorry to go off on a semi-political rant...but as much as most of us oppose stereotypes, some of us are so willing to stereotype others, sight unseen (or unheard, as the case may be).

Actually Virginia you are half right. The statement should not be is Dr. Phil a fraud or an idiot but rather Dr. Phil is a fraud and an idiot!!!!! I generally don't watch him but have caught glimpses of him when I am too lazy to find the zapper and change the channel or I am at someone else's place. Every time that pompous backside starts to talk I am reminded of a saying from my grandfather "No one will ever know how dumb you are until you open your mouth and tell them."

Back in the day I had a deep respect for Dr. Phil. He brought a brand of down-home "accept responsibility"ness to the masses. A whole new kind of reality therapy. Unfortunately, as his fame grew, he became more a grand stander and playing to the audience. His final decent into disrespect alley was when he got his own show because now he was totally invested in ratings to stay on the air. He jumped the shark when he offered to intervene with the Spears family.
