What do you do with your (natural) hair?

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

Neat thread

Post by Anne Bonny »

Women with short hair amazingly continue to have an unmistakably feminine style. I will soon transition to a woman's hair salon - Regis, my wife tells me many men have their hair cut there - I believe I have to start thinking styled. Her hairdresser is gay, and a nice guy but I chickened out. My regular place cuts men's and women's hair as well. The last time I went the woman was married but I got the impression she is gay, she has sideburns, and with short hair looks kind of butch though she is slender and as women will maintain clothing and accessories that are feminine. She told me growing up she hung out with the boys and would with the boys come up on the girls and grab their buns! Suppose this is why I have this impression of her. I believe she picked up on me, my fingernails are buffed, my upper legs smooth, pehaps my Arrid deoderant?? She asked if I ever pulled out the longer hair in my eyebrows -a little on the defensive I denied it, there were other customers seated 15 to 20 feet away. She also talked about trying different things like highlighting and styling. Did she pick up on my gender? She did trim my eyebrows - I wanted it, she layered and blocked the back of my hair. I have really been thinking alot about all of this. If you observe women - we all do it we learn. Anyway there was a woman with a short hair style Must be the cut - more "feathering?", layering instead of sharp lines, and the length of her bangs allowed a feminine flair over her forhead - still attractive and I believe a man could pull this off as unisex and get away with it. I just love openly dressing in women's clothing which is not obvious as I do not go out in public wearing obviously feminine clothing that men would not wear. But that day may be coming.

What I do with my hair most often is remove it from the shower drain.

Scarves!

I've been experimenting lately with tying a narrow chiffon scarf around the base of my ponytail, either on the back of my head or on top. Feels very sweet.

@Pat: lol

Robyn: I'm happy to say that I share your opportunity of long natural hair.

A year and a half ago, my hair was about shoulder length - it was long enough that I had to do something with it, but not long enough for a pony tail. At the time I was playing soccer - so I gelled it most of the time. That worked ok. Ever since a few months after that, it's been nothing but pony tails.

Now my hair is as long a it's ever been in my life. It's about 6" below shoulder length. Makes for an excellent pony tail. :)

I seldom do anything real femme with it, however in the past (occasions where my wife and i were going out to some place formal) my wife has ironed it. Ironed it in such a way that when hanging in front, the ends curled inwards. I think that style with a middle part is really femme looking, and not so obvious as would be curling it outwards.

With rsepect to scrunchies, I bought a pack of "middle of the road" scrunchies. Basic thick elastic loop (nothing frilly) in different colors. Works great. Black, brown, green, blue, gold, yellow and red ones when I'm going out. If I'm more adventuresome, I'll wear a white one (nice contrast to my black hair.) And the pink and purple ones are for at home by myself, or when going out on my own and not socializing.

Just knowing I'm wearing a pink scrunchie makes me feel different - I'm not quite sure why.

I've seen guys with long hair wearing one of those spring clip thingies before. I think a smaller black one would look only a bit femme. I may try that myself soon.

I love my long hair. More time consuming to wash, but I don't care. When next I go to the stylist, I may get it cut a bit, but no more than an inch or so.

I never thought I would say this, but I think my hair is probably long enough. lol

I'm growing my hair out again. Not since 1984 have I looked so non-conformist. I tell people it's my personal protest at being one of the 15 million unemployed, and I'll cut it once I have a job. Never mind that I took this mop of hair to my one and only job interview and they haven't called back. :-k

My SO commented today that she'd like me to get "a trim". I'm not sure where she would want it trimmed, but also not sure such a trim would fit in with my goal of being able to have pony-tails again.

Hugs,

Bernice

Sometimes that's the battle. I gently, but firmly. told my SO that I wanted to let my hair grow. It's been over two years now, and as I've posted, it's pretty darn long. My pony tail can rival that of any girl. I'm sure it looks strange to some and unacceptable to others, but I don't care. I like it and I want to keep it. You only go around once in life, at least consciously, and I am well in the mode of doing what I want to do, mostly within reason.

It took me about a year from having short, business acceptable length to having a 'nice' pony tail. Well worth the wait! Go for it!

Used to have hair down to mid back, Very full, very wavy. It was silver and black when I last saw it. Now I am shaved bald. Once it started to thin it was gone, gone, gone. I have never been told by so many women that I look great, even handsome. In fact I never got told that in my whole life until I was past 50 and divorced. Oh maybe that's it. Available means handsome  .

Once I shave the goatee and go looking for a wig, El and I think I should go for short and a bit wild. I have a fairly long neck and think it might work. It would also expose long dangly ear rings better but I don't have pierced ears as yet.

I just had a private conversation with Stephanie W and told her about ordering a padded girdle (to get hips and a butt) and silicone breast forms. So I am a mail order bride in several packages =D> .

Hugs

What do you do with your(natural) hair

Post by Pat »

Hi, it is 2 months since I last post on this topic, and I am glad to say that my natural hair has grown sufficiently to appear very feminine, as it is natural wavy, and when it is washed, dried, & brushed plus a little hair spray to keep it in place, becomes pretty passable, sure beats wigs. I thank the Lord for still having a good head of hair,(at 70) [-o< [-o<
Keeping them cupped comfortably.

Hair!

Post by Anne Bonny »

I plan of asking my hairdresser if they could start using the same techniques they use on women then allowing my hair to grow longer. I would expect soft layering, more bulk but would expect to get by without too much notice unless it begins to grow below my chin. I use Menoxidil to prevent a bald patch it is working well. I plan on using women's hair dye instead of just for men - probably would not be noticed.

Personal update:

I cut my hair for another very rare job interview, because I very much wanted the job. All I got was a second interview by telephone, and the loss of 6 months hair growth. Why do I now feel like a prostitute?

I have been growing out my hair for about 2 years now, and it ends about an inch past my shoulders. I got really tired of my grungy not-bangs I had, so I trimmed them myself one night, at three in the morning. (Ah, the idiocy of youth)

After I had a friend fix it up, my "bangs," (they're not too short, I was really timid with the snippers) reached to about my nose. I have wavy hair, so what I do it flat-iron the lot of my hair and comb my bangs over to one side of my face. It looks androgynous to me, though it leans on feminine.

Just my two cents.
Every now and then, life proves itself beautiful after all.

I love my hair I think its really versitle.

Basically its a disconnected layer. so bottom layer is to just above shoulders and top layer is only as long as my fringe which is to my eye brows and its very choppy and cut into.

I dye it jet black of course. Is good as it can look 'femme' and cute for my lover when it down it looks like a fluffy black glossy mid length cut and my hair is natural a tad wavy so quite volumous not lank

But i can gell the top up as its short enough very spiky and straighten the bottom for a punky look or tie back the bottom layer in short pony tail and let a couple of peices at the front free and brush top layer forward for a boyish look or tie back and gell up for very boyish/punky look. 4 hairstyles in one. I think versitile hair cuts like this are great you can make them look so different..
