Hi all,
Yes, I own bras, too. Close to two dozen, in varying shapes and forms and styles. I used to own more but, as with some of my skirts and heels and panties and nylons, they're now a part of my SO's wardrobe. I guess I can't complain when I discover that she's been rummaging through my dresser and closet; Goddess knows I've done my fair share of panty-raiding and bra-pilfering in my lifetime. Tit for tat is fair play.
I don't think I have a bra fetish. I like wearing one for two main reasons; firstly, it's a traditional part of almost every woman's wardrobe and of practically no man's and thus reinforces my psychological gender-shift towards the feminine end of the spectrum and, secondly, I am at least slightly endowed with enough flesh on my torso to create decent "man-boobs" but cannot do so without the help of a good bra. The fact that I'm a good thirty pounds over my ideal weight may help me in creating somewhat convincing (but certainly far from pendulous) breasts but, on the other hand, that extra weight also means a bit more of a struggle in creating the illusion of a narrower waist; my wardrobe has a higher turnover rate in the corset, girdle, and skirt departments than it does in the bra department.
Where I might agree that a bra becomes--possibly--a fetish item is when it's worn underneath male clothing as part of the practice of underdressing. What possible use can a bra have as part of the traditional masculine "costume" or "uniform" that men are expected to don before heading out the front door in the morning? Well, maybe this: when it's all a man is able to wear that's feminine (either through circumstance or through disinclination to out himself as a CD), the vast array of women's underthings--from bras, panties, and pantyhose to corsets, girdles, garter belts, stockings, and camisoles--may acquire, in some sort of concentrated form, the "gender charge" normally the province of an entire woman's outfit, heels, wigs, and makeup included. And I did say "gender charge," not "erotic charge." The erotic aspect of silky, feminine underthings is a different matter, one that may more properly fall under the purview of fetishism. Anyway, it's a theory.
But back to breasts and bras. Exceptional cases aside, more or less prominent breasts are a sexual characteristic of women, not men (and why men even have breasts in the first place--however flat they may be--is an amusing consideration to me). So, women have breasts. Ergo, women wear bras. Some men wish to emulate women or express a feminine identity. Ergo, those men wear bras.
To be honest, when I remove my bra at night--no, I don't wear one every day--and see the strap or underwire marks on the skin of my shoulders or chest, yes, even those marks retain a gender charge. You aren't supposed to see such marks on a man's skin. But you do on a woman's skin (especially given the fact that most women tend to wear ill-fitting bras
... sorry, had to throw that in!)
Finally, I'm not quite sure what to make of the whole Japanese "man-bra" (or Seinfeld's "Bro") thing. Sexy lingerie produced and marketed for men--stockings, garter belts, camisoles--I can understand, as either a fashion trend or marketing ploy, but a bra for men? Really? Next thing you know, it'll become a taboo for men to show their breasts or nipples publicly. Unless, of course, they're breastfeeding. But, hey, I'm getting ahead of myself; that one's still in the distant future. Or is it?
