It was bound to happen

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

It was bound to happen

Yesterday at Walmart I had one of those incidents that makes you smile, chuckle, and shake your head.

Wife and I went to WalMart to return an item and buy some items. She gives me the item to return and I go to the Service desk. Since I know dress almost every weekend, I was in full JoAnn mode. I walk up to the Service desk with my item. At first no one is there then I hear a voice from the back that says, 'Mam, I'll be right with you". So I wait and after a minute or two, this young lady comes out from the back room. I hand her my iterm to return. She asks if I have the rectiet. I tell her No. She rings it up and then asks for my ID. As I reach in my purse to get my DL, a smile comes over my face. My thoughts are ranging from this could be fun or horrible. So I hand her my DL. She glances at it, then looks at it again, then looks at me with a confused look on her face. Then she looks at my DL again, then at me again. As she is looking at me, all of a sudden it was like a light bulb lit up. Her expression went from confused to enlightment, her eys got big and round as she finially figured it all out. Then looking right at me she says, "OMG, are you a..." I finished her question with, "Yes, I am, is that a problem?" She answered, "OH, No,No,No, No problem at all.....DEAR". Now she is all bubbly, excited, and very talkative. It almost made me start laughing, but I kept my composer and just smiled.
When she had finished with the return, she handed me a gift card. I turned and started to walk away, when I heard her say, "Have a nice day, Dear". I turn back and said, "Thankyou, you too".

When I met up with my wife, I told her what happen. At first my wife was concern, but I told her that retail people don't care, they are trained to treat us like any other shopper. After all they want our money too. LOL

I bet she had a nice story to tell her GF's about the TG she waited on. LOL

Oh JoAnn,

How well I know what you are talking about, one evening I was checking out at Wally world and the checker just stopped and look at me but never said a word, her eyes told the whole story.
Yep I can still feel her eyes on me as I walked out and I sure she had a good old time telling her friends " your never believe what came through my line tonight". :P

Wal-Mart seems to attract our species for some odd reason. I worked for the big evil blue giant years and years ago, long before I'd gotten up the courage to go out myself, on the night crew, unloading trucks, working freight and whatnot. One night, a cd came in shopping, and to be honest, the girl just wasn't that put together, barely passable, yada yada yada...She came down the aisle I was working at the time, and I looked up at her, from sitting in the floor and said "Girl, you're a lot braver than I am."

She got a confused look on her face and I said "I'm still in the closet". She brightened up immediately, smiled and said she'd be back later. She came back a few nights later, en'drab and we talked for a bit, and she was the one who introduced me to a few more girls in the area who were part of a support group, and the rest is history.

Neat. Working at big blue might eventually come up as one of my college job applications :P .

Hi JoAnn--
It's surprising how differently women clerks treat me when I'm dressed. That's where I first learned that crossing gender lines results in new experiences. Even if they "knew" that I was not a woman, the appearance of a woman caused them to treat me differently, and it was a difference that I really liked!

I remember a college-aged clerk talking to me, and she was being so open that I had no model for dealing with it. I had to 'wing it,' and figure out what was appropriate. But I loved the exchange we had--she obviously did not see me as the person that I was used to being. There's a shock to the system that goes with this--there is nothing that can prepare you for it, but it's a positive step. Thanks for the post!

It's real funny when you think back when I first started going out dressed. Something like this would have horrified me then. When she asked for my ID, I was cool as a cucumber. LOL In fact I was looking forward to how she was going to handle it. The fact that she looked at my ID and then me at least 2-3 times told me that I do indeed pass well enough and then when it clicked in her brain, her look was priceless. The fact that she recovered her composer very quickly and continued to treat me as a woman did surprise me.
