At the Winter Solstice primitive people saw the sun had been going away for so long, felt the terror: what if it never comes back? ... And then, miracle! It began to return ...
Lots of things to worry about in our daily world, economic and all sorts of other anxieties. Yet the the earth tips back in its course, promising the return of spring and summer. Yearning for light, we try to spread abroad the love and warmth of the season to make the promise come true.
Whatever you believe is the source of light and warmth and goodness, may it shed its comfort and happiness on you and every one of us this season. And may your New Year be bright, prosperous and loving.
Love, Robyn Katie

May your family be non-combative as they are forced to come together, to tolerate one another in the spirit of face value love and affection, as the discussion rages from one divorce to the next scandal they've had...
...like mine does. When they get together, usually, it's to make snide and hurtful remarks about the ones that didn't make it to this holiday, and what embarrassing & stupid things they did at the last one.

It will be a small gathering we have...our two grown children (my daughter will stay over starting Christmas Day and will return home on St. Stephen's Day), my father-in-law and my two parents. But we will make as merry as we can, and I hope all my sisters here will do as well.
The ancient Celts believed that life was a circuit - death in this world meant being born into another, better world, and birth in this world meant death in that other, better world. For that reason, they mourned birth and celebrated death. Maybe that's one reason Ireland has been called the land of happy wars and sad love songs.

I'm not that kind of girl.

A Merry Christmas to all.
This is the second year in a row we will actually be home for Christmas. The kids are excited. But over the weekend we will be doing the Christmas tour, my side, her side, and more.

I am a physically male person that likes to wear feminine clothes at times.
Just trying keep a balance for my self along with keeping my wife and kids in mind.

It's a little before two in the morning here, and everyone is settling in after Midnight Mass. As we all prayed for peace and a better world, I was thinking of Erin (after checking out what all the women were wearing - lots of black patent leather heels with black stockings; love the look, but the totality was somber, which I guess isn't surprising since these are truly somber times). Actually, I've been thinking of Erin a lot lately, thanks in no small part for the musings of many of you, my sisters, here on this board.
As Erin, I think I'd have resisted the trend to wear black tonight. I'd have worn red, maybe a knit dress from Newport News. I'd have worn red pantyhose (too warm for tights) and, well, okay, black patent heels. I'd have worn a gold cross pendant on a fine gold chain, and maybe a nice bracelet. If my children were still young, they'd have been dressed brightly - the girls in bright colors, the boys in white or light blue dress shirts (at Mass, I saw one sweet little girl dressed in a turquoise dress and matching tights, and the tights were speckled with glitter). And they all would have been reminded how desperately I loved them as they went to sleep tonight.
We also saw a family we see at church from time to time, and somehow always at Midnight Mass - a woman with a daughter a little older than mine, more impaired than my daughter is, and also visually impaired. Our eyes met and we smiled at one another, members of the same club, a smile of understanding, support and good wishes, even though we only know one another by sight. But Erin would have gone up to her, told her how pretty she looked, how nice her hair looked, and maybe exchanged names and numbers. Alas, social convention prevented a man who was with his wife (who was tired from a full day and clearly was not in the mood to network, preferring the comfort of her own bed as soon as possible) from doing so.
I've been interrupted a few times by my wife and son, and so this has taken far longer than it should have. It's now nearly three, and I'm getting sleepy. Good night, girls. And may you truly enjoy the peace of the season, regardless of your particular beliefs. And may we all find the courage and optimism we need to see our difficult times through to a better day.
