Interesting definition

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

Interesting definition

Post by Virginia »

I was reading a critique of a book called, "Whipping Girl" by Julia Serano.

The critiquee at one point defined herself as a "queer transsexual woman."

Anyone want to take a shot at that, I mean does it mean, "Male lesbian?"

She did not define that but she did say she likes women, so my best guess it that, well my interpretation is "male lesbian." I guess? :-k

We are an interesting diversion are we not!?

Virginia, I guess your translation fits, but she might also have been using "queer" to further define her transition. First, I must plead ignorance, as I've not seen nor read the book you speak of.
Could this person simply be describing her queer nature as a Trans-woman? I dunno.

You're right about one thing...we are an interesting diversion! A fact that I am growing more proud of everyday. 8)

I wouldn't say "male lesbian" because she does not identify as male.

She is a woman. If she prefers transsexual woman, so be it.

Regardless, as a (trans) woman, liking other women, she's a lesbian.

If I ever get outed to somebody I'd rather not be outed to, and they ask me"what's this?" I think I will respond by saying "I'm an interesting diversion!" =D>

Jenny Boylan remained attracted to women after she transitioned MTF. However she said that she did not consider herself a lesbian, and that in fact the word for what she was did not exist in the English language. Since she is an English professor that is impressive......maybe her thoughts have developed in the time since she wrote her autobiography.

HI Absaroka,

That is some heavy stuff if one thinks about it. OK, I am a male. I choose to transition completely. Now being a "woman" physically" and attracted to women, dare I say, physically, where does the "conflict" arise? Is it the fact that I left a part of me on "the cutting room floor" cause this metamorphosis or the fact that I now have (how about this), a "ghost organ." that keeps me from being labeled a lesbian. Or is it the fact that I was born one physical gender but felt that I was the (another) other gender and took steps to correct that misdeed. The mind boggles!

I think we will have to live with the multitude of definitions that define us until the scientist determine from the human genome just exactly who and what we were, are and will be! Until that time I guess we have the right to call/define ourselves whatever we feel like. That is the main reason, I define myself as a NOTS, a non-operated (on) trans - sexual. I still have the piece of equipment that I brought into this world with me, but I have no doubt that Virginia is real, she has feelings, opinions, presentations and she is me!

Ah yes, we are definitely "an interesting diversion!"

Love ya,

Repeat After ME!!!

Gender is not the same thing as sexual orientation nor sexual attraction.

Repeat as often as needed until it sinks in.

Carolynn,

Gender is not the same thing as sexual orientation, but it is the measure by which we determine it, much as the north magnetic pole determines our orientation on this planet. The problem is that not all of the directions have been adequately defined.

Hugs,
