Ok, I try and find dresses that fit me but I've just starting to order over the internet and they are always asking me if my shoulder width.
Now if I was going out to buy a new jacket I would be looking for something in a 40 or a 39 if I was getting it tailored.
How do I know my shoulder width in a dress? Everything I look at is between 17 - 20.

Hi Lily.
Learning about sizes are we!!??
think petite, junior, misses, woman,
size -0- (I have yet to figure that one out myself, how can someone wear a -0-?) anyway if you go to some of the net sites that sell women's clothing they will usually have a tab to a size chart that says if your measurements are for example 40-34-43 then in their clothes you wear a size ??? (see chart).
We also know that different manufactures, sizes and styles are not anywhere close to consistent across the board. Again, for example I have several pair of ladies jeans, lay them out side by side, they all fit but the tags range from a 12 to a 16, depending on the manufacturer. Bras are another challenge but not so much in cup and band size but in the style of the cup.
Find so size charts in catalogues or at websites and then good luck.
What some of the girls do, for example at GoodWill, I will load up a cart with things I like and off to the dressing room to try things on. Or if you choose (and it becomes a bit of a trial and error) at various "ladies" stores or dept, stores. (Penny's, Macy's, etc.) most will let you try on anything you like BUT is you are en drab or if they read you they may direct you to the Men's dressing room which can be embarrassing.
Good luck and good hunting!
