Are you in the closet?

Post by Susan »

I have wondered how many of us here are in the closet and how many are out in the big wide world.

This is a simple poll so please answer honestly.

If I have missed any options you feel need including please let me know.

I answered no--i go out enfemme with no problem -- however, the only one that knows its me is my wife/SO -- so in many ways still closeted. But I am very happy with things as they are---I am lucky and able to completely blend when I do go out (including girls fun weekends and a couple week long vacations with my wife). I have no desire to take it further--I just enjoy being able to e this side of me when I want to!

I wouldn't say that I am in the closet anymore, but due to the area I do not go out openly fully dressed, but when I get away from home I go fully dressed. I have even been known to go dressed, change for an apt then change back till almost home.

I'm with Anne... I voted #2 because I am in the closet, but my wife knows. But I feel #4 also because I wish I wasn't.

My wife knows some but not all. She doesn't know the extent of my wardrobe or how often I dress when no one is around- i work at home alone.

I go out but only when there is no one around. I guess that means I'm in my outdoor closet. I like it there. I don't feel much of a need for anyone else to know about this, but don't like the partial lie of ommision to my wife. However the 2 people in f2f life who know about this and know my wife agree that she doesn't seem to want to know more.

My own story is that I told my partners before it got too serious. For many years I was in the closet but two and a half years ago I went to a local establishment to have a makeover done and I was amazed how I looked. I decided to take it further and booked myself a make up lesson. After lots of practice I first ventured out for our Christmas party in 2008.

Since then I have ventured out more and more and never attracted any untoward attention or comments, I have been to restaurants but have not yet been shopping.

Its not likely to stop any time soon

Indeed, these responses overlap heavily. For example, I've told my SO, AND I wish I was out of the closet, and sometimes when MY SO is out of town I go out En Femme with no problems other than being scared to death. Now what do I mark? I marked "Told My SO", but suppose I had also told others, yet still felt "in the closet"?

Perhaps it would be better to re-word with "check all that apply"?

Hugs,

Interesting with the few responses (29 or so) that the majority, what? 42% do go out.

I guess my question is that for those that are scared of being "detected," i.e being seen by someone that will or can recognize them when dressed, are you admitting that you don't "pass" well enough to not be able to disguise yourself as your feminine presentation? Some one would recognize you coming home or leaving your house or to recognize your car?

Some understand that it is their physical presentation, not the clothes but the way they present, the walk, the hand gestures, how they carry themselves all lead to being depicted as just "a guy in a dress!?"

I guess it takes some introspection to determine where you stand on going out amongst "the great unwashed." That is assuming you have the opportunity to just "go out!"

Begs the question, why do you even want to dress as woman and go outside of your house? There is more to that question than "meets the eye" so to speak!

The "cross dresser's continuum" that we all reside on has room for everyone of us, so if you have "the gift," there really is no right or wrong.
You are who you are and you will deal with this gift in your own way, in a way that you are hopefully comfortable.

If I may, I am Virginia and Virginia is me and we are enjoying our Magical Mystery Tour!

Love,

Virginia

If a SO and I have been together for any time I tell them and I've told one roommate over the years but I have never told even my closest friends.

I don't know if I can. The few times I got to go out in full dress I had so much fun. But the last time ended badly and I haven't been able to bring myself to do it again.

I voted yes, but wish I wasn't. My wife knows but is not supportive. Some friends and relatives also know. Also, I have gone out some while dressed, mostly for Halloween, but must recently while on a business trip. Went to breakfast fully dressed and didn't appear to have any problems. I would love to go out more often and do more things en femme.

I initially indicated I was in the closet, but wished I wasn't. That may not be quite true. In actuality, I'm probably half in and half out, though wishing I was further out.

I am, whenever possible, opening the door and getting further out. And letting Alana express herself more.
