Caps?

I've noticed that some CD's wear a cap under their wig. I assume it is to hold a wig on more securely. At first I thought they were made from old nylons and tried that angle myself. Didn't work! What are they called, where do you get them and is that what they are for? Is the wig secured to the cap with pins?

It's called a wig cap. Available in some drug stores, wig shops, online.
Basically, it's to hold your own hair in under the wig, and not essential for anyone with short hair.
I've not heard of anyone fastening the wig to the cap.
I use mine to help with raising the eyebrows, when I want to do this. The medical tape sticks better to the wig cap than my hair, don't you know.

Thank you! Pony tail was becoming a problem. So medical tape helps to hold on a wig? How do you do tyhat?

Another purpose of the wig cap is to keep down the itchies. If I don't wear mine or I don't ensure the band of the wig stays on the cap, my head just gets so itchy. There are a couple types of the cap to include one with a "comfort band" and the standard that looks like that left over nylon.

I wear a wig cap to hold my own hair in place and in a pinch I have used old thigh high cut down. Works great for me, and two I use hair pins to hold my wig cap and wig together as one, no problem of it coming off in public.

No no no. Medical tape is applied to an area on both sides of the forehead and pulled back over the center of the wig cap to lift ones eyebrows into a higher arch. Makeup and wig hair covers the tape on the forehead.

A wig cap also helps protect the wig. Our hair (and bodies) naturally produces oils that are not exactly "good" for the wig. A wig cap acts as a buffer and absorbs some of these oils. (At least that's what my stylist told me.)
