Can you drive in heels?

Can you drive in heels?

Post by Cindy Louise »

After my little outing I found it was quite hard to drive in heels. They weren't overly high, only 3", but a few times there I had to look down to see my foot on the brake.

Don't worry I wasn't in any danger of hitting someone and If I felt I wasn't in control then they would have ended up in the passenger footwell it's not as if it would have been the first time I've driven barefoot.

So ladies do you drive in heels, are there any tricks to doing it?

Cindy,

I drive in 3" heels everytime I go out and never have a problem. I know a lot of girls say they have trouble driving in heels but for the like of me I can't figure out why. The only reason you would have a problem is if you put your whole foot on the pedals instead of just the ball of your foot. Other than that I can't see why driving in heels should cause you a problem.

Never been a problem, even with driving a manual transmission. Seemed easier sometimes, too.

I have diven a lot of vehicles in heels. It makes a lot of difference on the position of the petals and the way you use your foot on them. If you try to use the whole foot it is a problem, but ir you use the toes or ball of the foot it is not problem in most vehicles. I have dirven some though that I thought my big toe was going to cover 2 pedals.

I would claim it felt more unfamiliar than awkward or difficult. I routinely drive a manual Porsche in everything from sandals to heels to boots, and despite having a really touchy clutch it didn't take all that long to get used to.

... in fact I'd argue that it's more of a challenge to get into and out of gracefully in a skirt than to drive in heels! I had my first experience in a Tesla last week and the really wide door sills made that even trickier to get in and out while maintaining any dignity.

One thing I can't get used to is driving in flip-flops.

Driving in heels is a girl thing just like walking in them. A bit of practice and you will be at the Indy 500 in no time! or in a Porsche behind bars! Catch me if you can!

Uhmm, I always preferred driving in a car or pick-up. Heels don't got not round tires and no motor to make 'em go!!!

Seriously, I do not drive in heels. The angle between the gas pedal and the floor of the car often mean skinned heel backs. So I take a change of shoes, low heel for driving, taller heel for looking better. Don't often wear very high heels anyway.

Heels are not a problem for me. But flip flops are a pain and bare foot is just strange.

Thanks for the input everyone. The general consensus seems to be I need practice, which is very true as I haven't driven in heels for over 10 years.

Heh, funny that you say that, but everytime I pop in the car and I'm in flip flops, I shove them under the seat and go barefoot. Actually, I kind of like driving barefoot, although my Megane has a damn hard clutch (it's a diesel).

I've never tried driving in heels...

No problem driving in heals but flip flops do go off and under the seat. I drive barefoot most all of the time and the only reason that I do leave heals on if so that I do not put a run in the stockings. What I do not do is use the cell while driving, well unless I need to that is. :P
Warm Regards,
