Is that I can unabashedly admire women, talk to the about their clothes, hair, and everything else and not be considered lecherous. They like to talk about it, and know I have a real interest and am not just trying to pick them up.
I have difficulty talking to women when en drab because of the sexual tension, but when I'm dressed it's all cool.

The freedom to enjoy life on a level that is truly my own and not covered over by the veneer of what others expect.

And, yes, to be able to talk with my wife about clothes, make up and style, with out her not looking at me as though I am weird.

To be in the world and interact in the way you describe, a dream, maybe someday.

It gives me the time to take care of and pamper myself. To feel something different about me. Relaxed and more in tune to my surroundings. A chance to live out for just a few hours what I feel inside. Escape from reality.

For me it's about throwing off the mask I live behind and feel truly comfortable with who I am.

As one of my GG friends tells me, she only sees Davita. It doesn't matter if I'm dressed or not. Myself, I'm not sure I'm so "blended" or complete. So when I'm en fem, I think I have that completeness my friend sees. I'm comfortable with who I am and my friends are certainly comfortable, but to freely talk and do things in public without that twinge of self consciousness, I still need the matching attire for my fem self.

Being true to myself. What more can I say? That statement encompasses pretty much everything.

Well for me CD'ing all my life and only in the passed 10 years have I come to fully understand me on the inside and mostly in my heart.

What ever time I have left in this world I will be Carol everyday all the time (20/7), still have to be drab now and again. I enjoy taking care of my skin, picking out cloths to wear, doing my makeup and hair and just being who and what I am. I am a very happy person

Its who I am.

It removes my frustrations with life, I feel happy and stress free.

Not to forget it just feels pretty good as well.

What can I say other than wearing silky lingerie makes me feel happy. How can something like this have such a calming and relaxing feeling, I don't know, but it does. It is better than drinking and drugs, I can drive under the influence. If you don't purge it is cheaper also.

When I was out with some of my friends a couple of months ago we worked out how much it cost to look as good as we did - the total for me cost about $900 and that was just what I was wearing at the time and just one outfit.

I never thought this was a cheap hobby

There is truth to cost, but you can smoke a cigarette once and drink from the cup before refilling once so to speak. That outfit will probalby be worn many times over the next few years. Underdressing every day, I get repeated enjoyment until the day it wears out. Then I get to go and buy more. Basic lingerie is not that badly priced. Anyway, you always find the money for your favourite pastimes.

well it's not cheap, I spend about $200-$300/month on average for clothes, hair care, perfume, jewelry, etc. When I wore mostly men's clothes it was more like $200 / year.
But it's cheaper than snowmobiling (my other hobby). I paid about $6500 for my sled, gas is at least $100 each weekend you ride, and it's about $1000 for repairs each time I crash.
I don't really know about smoking, but I know I spend more than $300/month for beer. (maybe I shouldn't advertise that fact )

And I will maintain that it is healthier than drinking beer and crashing my snowmobile.

I don't know about smoking either. But I wandered into a corner shop today and found a packet of 20 Embassy Filter cost £6.65 (ca $10.50). So a month of that is $300 and a year about $3,500 or somewhere over £2,000. That isn't cheap, but it's not murderously expensive either, given how important dressing up seems to be most people here.

But, on the other hand, you can spend much more - and I suppose that was Susan's point. To a degree, there's a "because I'm worth it" element -where you feel that if you're not spending as much as you can, you're selling yourself short (I know that's how I felt when I bought my core wig). But, on my admittedly small experience, I do feel that I could probably spend my money better (even a lot better)...

And...buying stuff can be an addiction in itself (as I found last year).
