It has been revealed that Coronation Street is to have its first Crossdresser character,Mark the guy both Audrey and Claudia are chasing is revealed as a Crossdresser when he is attacked in the Street he calls Audrey to come to the hospital, where she finds out about him
Now I really do hope This storyline, dealing with the subject of CDing is dealt with in a sympathetic manner, and not in a negative or jokey way,Myself I am not hopefull it will be,as when the first TS or gay characters appeared, the dialogue basically was a stream of various insults and abuse coming from other characters, what do you UK girls think may,or may not happen

OMG ! Is Coronation Street still going on? Back over 30 years ago, when I lived in the New York area, we used to see what were then old reruns on a local TV channel. We get several British shows on our PBS station here in Florida, but even these are over ten years old. No sign of Coronation Street, sadly. It's a true slow boat from across the pond.
I'm sure they will deal with CD in a rational manner.
Hugs,

This could give me a problem, I would love to see how The Street deals with this, butt as I am adamantly agains all soaps if I was to suddenly watch this eppisode it woulsd seem more than a little strange.
Since the street is so widely watched surely haveing a character in it who does CD can only be a good thing, it will show that we do exist and what ever the reactions it should show some of the difficulties we go through.

I appreciate not everyone likes the Soaps.Corrie is the only one I watch (ever since was a kid, watching it with my granny). Was just basically gauging everyone's views on whether a fictional drama is the right place to deal with the subject.I just have my doubts

Why not? I mean I'm not a soap fan either (though I did get addicted to "The Sullivans", a not very-well known Aussie soap), but things like Brookside and East Enders do have a track record of breaking (somewhat) the bounds of conventional taste with "social issue" based drama. I mean think of Anna Friel's lesbian kiss in Brookside, which made her a star. I have the impression that East Enders, for example, uses "social issues" to add new experiences to their dramatic palette in a way that spices it up for the audience (and thus keeps it interested). While, in one way, this is cynical - they seem (of late) to make attempts to give "balanced accounts" of these issues. And I would expect that to be the case with the CDing.
Maybe you get one of the women interested inthe CDer basically supportive and the other antagonistic and some of the conflicts about CDing in society being worked out through the dramatic situations this engenders. In the end, I'd guess, they'd come to a not-too-negative stance on it, but I don't see them having a permanent CDer as a character. I doubt the audience would be ready for that.

Not a soap fan here either.
Although this is probably is a first for CD/TV on Corrie, the soap did play a TG scenario & issues before. It was very well done .

There was/is a male to female TG in Corrie played by a woman because they thought the viewers could handle the concept but they could not deal with a real TG. So they have a female actor acting as a man acting as a woman.
If the episode envolves a hospital scene it may include the underdressers nightmare of been undressed in hospital following an accident revealing something more embarassing than dirty underware. This has nearly happened to me on more than one occasion. I once change from panties to underpants for no particular reason and 10 minutes later broke my leg in an RTA. Allthough I often thought if I hadn't delayed to change out of my underware I would have not been there for the accident

IIRC, a few years ago, one of the day time soaps had a MtF Trans character which was played by a man. There was a lady that was in love with this character but was having a problem adjusting to the transition.

Ugly Betty had a trans character played by a woman, for several years. She was a co-owner of the magazine, sister/brother of the other co-owner.

Corrie generally has a good record on lgbt characters and there's no reason to suspect it'll be different.

Have watched since the 60s. Yes Haley on the show was a man at one time. Quite a few years ago, caused quite a stir on the street. She married Roy Cropper. Blended right in, now you never hear about it.
