I am published!

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

Hi Billie Ann--
Congratulations! Can you tell me which month the article appears? Downloads take forever, and I'd like to get the right one.

A very worthwhile article, Billie Ann. The gay community can have a harder time with MtF trans people, whether they are crossdressers or transitioners. One reason is because we don't have experience with the gay community; a lot of us identify as straight, until we actually begin to think about living in the other gender and taking hormones. So the gay community doesn't learn about us or know about us, and we don't identify with them, either.

A large percentage of FtM trans men start their adult lives as lesbians--so they get familiar with the gay community, they come out, they learn what it's like to be seen as different. It doesn't make coming out as a trans man easy, but it helps that they know the territory. For a lot of MtFs, they have no connection to any community at all. When they come out, they have to learn everything at once. So your chapter of Tri-Ess will be helpful in letting them take baby steps.

Anita:
I've also heard the same thing regarding the gay/lesbian crowd...we're too 'strait' for them. The only thing we may have in common is the universal rejection we all get from the actual 'strait' world, and what we all have to face when we 'come out' and reveal who and what we really are!

I have recently started playing in the London Gay Symphony Orchestra, as far as I can tell I am the only T in the LGBT there, I have to say that everyone has been accepting and friendly, especially the ladies! Although I have gay friends this was the first all gay situation I had been in and I think it felt ore alien to me than I was to them. At first I actually felt a little guilty about this until I realised that this must be how so many gay people feel in straight situations, that this is why they form specifically gay organisations like this.

I have to say that I am now thoroughly enjoying the music, the friendship, and of course the opportunity to glam up a bit or the concerts, next one is tomorrow night!
