Dress from hell/dress from heaven

Well, which is it? Fair question. I guess it depends on whose eyes you're looking through. Here is what happened: My wife bought this dress for herself. It is a summer dress that she got on seasonal close out at Kohl's or JCP. Although it is polyester, it is "breathable" material, not at all warm or uncomfortable. It is a print material, black with pink and yellow flowers on it. It is sleeveless style with a scoop neckline. It also has 1-inch wide black patent leather belt. Her thought was to remove some material from bottom and sew on a 2-inch wide black lace border instead of a bottom hem, kinda dress it up a bit.
Her thought was to have me wear the dress while she pinned it along the bottom, making sure she got it even.
After she finished with the alteration, she tried the dress on herself. After much sewing, ripping out and then re-sewing, it turned out a bit shorter than she wanted. She worked on it most of yesterday afternoon. Even though I was in another part of the house during her work, I could sense a feeling of frustration on her part. It was then that she called it the "dress from hell".
She said to me: "here, you try it on, I want to see what I did wrong". When I slipped into it, she said "OMG it looks perfect on you. Enjoy your new dress". At that point, I was in heaven, hence the "dress from heaven".
Now I have three dresses, this one plus my little yellow cocktail dress plus of course my wedding dress. I must admit that the little yellow dress looks pretty good on me now that I have a dark tan. Now my fellow CDers, you may think that's not much of a dress collection, but you must understand that I'm more of a skirt-and-top person than a dress person. I'm really into the "mix-and-match" thing. I have about 2 dozen skirts of varying lengths plus about twice as many tops.
Thanks for reading.
Hugs,
Deb
