First bra of your own

Finally got around to getting myself a bra! ...you know what, I lie, I didn't buy it. My mother did! She was more embarrassed about it that I was at first (understandably), and it was kind of under false pretence (not mentioning the fact I'd probably wear it at other times than just if my weird friends drag me out somewhere that accepts such things). Still, she was with me when my concept of crossdressing was just a one time lark for a university night out, she even picked my blouse, so it wasn't a total shock.
And of course she had to get me two sizes, so I can check whether I'm a 34 or a 36, and she'll take the other back. Exactly how close to the (male)body are the top curve of the cups supposed to sit? Because I measured up at 35 and pre-padding the 34 pulls them flush to my skin and is noticable tight while the 36 leaves a bit of space (like on the box with some breast flesh there) and is just snug. I'll try them with balloons anyway, but still, and advice?
It's nice to have open minded parents, even if I haven't told them everything. Anyone else got stories from their first bra that wasn't borrowed or half-inched?

Eien,
If you measure at 35 (below your bust line) then get a 36. As for how the cups fit, it depends on what size "breasts" you want. An A will probably fit to the skin, a B will usually provide more room for "forms" and C even more room.
So, what cup size did you get?

I bought my first at Victoria's Secret. I was obviously in boy-mode when I was shopping, but I indicated I was TG, and they were quite helpful. My experiences there have led me to do a fair amount of business with them.

I bought my first bra from Sears. Back when i had all my teeth and wasn't a baldy. It was 1969 and i got my first check from the paper mill, I ordered swimsuit, a bra, and a pair of back zip capri's. So nervous to go to the counter to pick them up at the catalog store. I was on top of the world. Sears mail order, I miss it....Kristen

I went with a B so given what you said you're right Donna, the 36 band it is. Thanks for the help. Since I'm tall and thin, I figured there was definitely such a thing as too much on my frame, even if I don't really plan to go out to pass properly. Might be fun to find out what 'too much' would be like in the future though!
Oh, and I forgot one piece of info, we got them at M&S, though given the circumstances I have no idea how TG friendly they are. Still, you could buy in male mode and just not say anything and they probably wouldn't think much of it.

I bought some heavy hose at M&S 10 years ago during a trip (US= tights) and they didn't bat an eye at nervous me. I think they want sales.

Hi all,
I bought my first 2 new bras for myself going on to 3 years ago.
My wife went with me to a nearby Walmart, and she helped me choose them - a white Bestform underwire with a multicolor floral print, and a Secret Treasures (Walmart house brand) red underwire. I also bought a white Cupid boned waist cincher. They are all still in my wardrobe and I wear them on a somewhat regular basis.

The bra I´m wearing right now is actually the first one I bought in 1993 so it´s 12 years old! It´s white 36A-cup underwire satin bra with a nice floral embroidery on the cups. Feels nostalgic, this is the bra it all started from.

I bought my first bra at Target in about 1997.
That day I also bought a black knit dress, pantyhose and panties.
I still have them all!
That is when I decided I was going to do this, just for my own personal exploration, although I didn't get serious until last summer.

Hi Eien--
I also bought my first bra at Sears. I had already been to the local CD-friendly store, where I was paying top-dollar for a wig and a custom skirt. Since I was buying everything at once, I was looking at a lot of expense, and the economics of the situation won out over nervousness.
I walked into the "forbidden" section of the store, and asked the saleswoman if she'd measure my chest. THAT was the toughest part of the whole deal--she didn't initially seemed too enthused about the transaction. But I kept up the chatter with her, and went about selecting what I wanted. I still have that one, but hardly ever wear it; it's a 40-C Cross-your-heart. I found that a Haines sport bra works better for the different forms I use now.

as to Sears? them dirty rotten scoundrels stopped making the bra "I" liked!
it has been a bear to find split cup bras, so that each side moves on it's own.
and it had elastic material so the entire bra was moving all the time, and not just sitting-there on your chest..it stretched and moved everywhere.
gawd I'd kill to have that bra back.

I bought my first Bra at a Value City Store in the Saint Louis area in 1999. It was a shear Black, with a front hook and fit very well. The problem is I could never find any other like and now it is almost worn out.

I think I got my first one at Wal Mart but I don't remember. Some time later at Walmart they were having a sale and I bought several I knew they would be too small and would need a back extender after which they worked well. When I went to pay for them the sales girl asked did I know that they wouldn't fit me? I said I was sure they wouldn't and let her and the people behind me think what they wanted. It's the only time anyone has ever said anything and my impression was that either she was joking or trying to be helpful.
Most stores are pretty clear with their employees about the policy of the customer is always right....I imagine that a lot of the sales people may have an idea what is going on although in Victorias secret a lot of men are buying for a sweetheart. I don't think many men buy bra for their wives and girlfriends at Wal Mart however.
I have a friend who has a huge costume collection. He is in the theater. He got a lot of it at Goodwill.
Probably my favorite bra is a bralette, size xl from Macys made of modal. It fits either the C cup insert or the little AA enhancer and is so comfortable I almost forget it's there.
