It has been a long time since I have posted so I guess it's time to jump back in.
Like many here I love to go the whole nine yards in a nice outfit complete with heels and hose and the makeup. But since I rarely get out it's fair to say I am overdressed to simply sit around the house and there have been times that I have dressed and have not felt comfortable for some reason. I brought this up with my wife who is very supportive of my femme side and she pointed out that my male side has never been much for fashion so maybe I was having a bit of an inner conflict. To make a long story short she suggested something casual. So I bought some women's shorts and sandals and two very plain tops, one pink, the other baby blue. I don't know if it's because it's something new to wear or what but I have to say I feel better about myself in something this casual as I ever have being all dolled up. It's simple, less fuss and it's still me. So my question is, does the way you dress affect how you feel about yourself?
To the nines or casual, does it make a difference?

I think we all go through it and some take longer to get to where you are than others. Some never get to the casual side of dressing ever.

I can't say I feel better about myself, as I feel the same all the time. However, I do feel more relaxed.
While in Vegas I got one of those cami tops (pink with antique cream lace trim my wife picked out
) GGs wear outside all the time, and was comfortable enough wearing it that it was the first time my son has seen me wear more than the nail polish I usually wear.

I love the casual side! 
Part of the reason I don't dress up fancy or wild is because I can't find my fashion sense!
Where the heck did I put it? Hmmmmm.
I'm 6'2" and about 200lbs.
I look at catalogs, browse the women's departments at stores, check out the internet websites of places like Lane Bryant, J.Jill et.al., but I just can't seem to 'see' myself in anything really nice.
I have a file in which I keep catalog pages with pictures of clothing I really like the looks of.
But I've never ordered any of it.
I tend to dress en femme like I do en drab...casual and comfortable.
I don't find that my tastes are driven by fear of what my wife might accept or not, either.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to shop for a really nice, dressy-up outfit!?

I like casual. Male or female I prefer no shoes, just socks or stockings. No make up either. If I had to go out (note choice of wording: had to) I imagine I would CD real casual. At least that is what I envision when I think about going somewhere enfemme.

How supportive is your wife? Get her to go with, as it's always nicer to shop with someone else and get feedback from them.
Barring that, imagine being invited to a posh affair, and head out to find something appropriate.

Every once-in-a-while she makes a joke about me and crossdressing.

Anyway, I went over to my friend's home Saturday evening and dressed the most casual that I ever have going out in public. Virginia just did not feel comfortable in that type of outfit, white slacks and a brownish flowery print blouse and two inch heels. We took some pictures and I have been studying them and though they are not too bad , it just isn't Virginia's style. (of course the long hair did not help as she seems to look and feel more comfortable with the shorter, wavy, formal look) Wig is very expensive , but will probably go up for sale soon as it just isn't her! Virginia seems to seek a style that she describes as "conseratively sexy." Unfortunately with the current cultural styles of laid-back, comfort, casual, she does seem somewhat overdressed, but that is her style and what she seems to be most comfortable with. An example would be in stead of jeans and a sweatshirt or tank-top, Virginia would choose black or white silk or crepe slacks, a contrasting silk blouse with bell cuffs and pleats and 3" open toed heels.
Just her style not meant for everyone. Remeber when we go out we are eachother's ambassadors so no micro-mini's and DDD bras and 6" heels.

I would like to wear more casual things, but they do not work for me at present. If I only wear jeans and a t-shirt, then I look (and feel) like a guy, both to myself and to anyone who's around. I wear women's pants, but they have to be somewhat on the dressy side, or else it's not apparent that they're supposed to be women's pants. Capris would be really good for this, but I haven't found any that work for me, yet.
I don't like to dress around the house, when I'm by myself. That's where casual comes into play, for some of the others here. Sometimes I will stay dressed, when I come in from somewhere. But that's usually late at night. I am not a CD who finds women's clothes to be comfortable.
Allen, I found a woman who does alterations for me, since few dresses or blouses ever fit me perfectly right off the rack. She lengthens sleeves for me, and lowers or raises hems. You have to trust whoever you find to do this, but Bonnie is great for giving me tips on how to wear clothing, both as a guy and a gal.
You can find this under "Alterations" in our yellow pages. It takes some persistence to find someone who will work with you, but it's worth it.

I haven't reached the casual zone yet and after 3 years of CDing since the urge resurfaced, I'm not sure if and when I will. My loving, supporting wife prefers dresses casual most of the time, except for church.
I just dress femme around the house for a few hours an evening, and for me at this point, it's usually lingerie, breast forms, stockings, dress or femme top/skirt, slip, femme shoes, jewelry (clip earrings, necklace, bracelet),and wig almost every time.
