How about a pink scarf.

In our most widely read national daily newspaper last Friday there was an article written about the birth of the new man described as ' mirls '. The article was accompanied by a photo of a 21 year old univeristy student, a Mr Surbakti, dressed in blue jeans, a green pullover with a pink scarf tied around his neck and a shoulder bag.

The article reads as follows................

A new breed of ultra feminine straight men has arrived that make the metrosexual look like a rugged caveman.
Variously called " mirls " - male girls - or " hermaphrodudes ", they're not afraid to carry a manbag, wear feminine jewellery, spend a fortune on fashion or work in traditionally female jobs.

Yet when it comes to romance they remain committed to pursuing the opposite sex.

While metrosexuals could be identified by their pink T- shirts and occaisonal moisturiser, hermaphrodudes take it a step further, wear pink scarfs and work in womens fashion and lingerie shops.

In recognition of the mirl revolution, female fashion chain Sportsgirl released a line of ' boy jewellery ' specifically for guys.
Sportsgirl spokeswoman, Prue Murphy, said the line of wood and bead necklaces, bracelets and leather chokers and wrist straps had sold well.

"Girls would buy them for their boyfriends or a guy might come in with his girlfriend and see them and take an interest," she said.

"Guys are definitely taking much more care in the way they look and it's not considered bad to be wearing bracelets", she added.

New reserach by youth forecaster, Lifelounge, shows urban lads spend only slightly less on fashion than females of the same age.
Nearly half of males between 16 and 29 spend more than $150 a month on fashion, and nearly one in five spends more than $250.

Austar Surbakti said he was simply one of a lot of guys who were not particularly macho. The proud owner of three pink shirts, a new pink scarf and 10 manbags insists on a 'different bag for different occaisons' and strugles to leave home with just a wallet and a phone.
The student, 21, spends a quarter of his income on fashion and reckons his mates are baffled as to how he can pay $100 for a haircut.

" I just bought a pink scarf and didn't think twice about it because I thought it would go with my pink striped jumper", he said.

Mr Surbakti's feminine traits and habitual use of lip balm and chapsticks does nothing to put off female suitors.

A female admirer once even paid $50 for a kiss from him at a univeristy fundraiser.

Mr Surbakti is part of a global trend that has also been described as the birth of " hybrid man ".

International research spearheaded by French marketing and style consultants recently found that macho men such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are an endangered species.

............................................

There definitely has been a move away from the once socially accepted colours of brown, grey and blue for men and also for what type of garments males now wear, but it seems mainly to be acceptable in the younger age group up to the early 20's, but it does show that change is taking place still and will continue to as the younger set are usually the style setters. Younger women in that age group seem to also be having an influence on how their male partners dress in regard to colours of garments, style and choice of garment even to where in the Yuppie world there are sections where men wearing a skirt is acceptable, but where it starts to run into problems is when womens underwear is involved. I think it would be fair to say that most women of any age group then start to have a problem of why there is the need for the underwear etc. as they see it bringing other issues into play other than just fashion, but times are a changing.

Kind Regards,

Sally.

Interesting Sally. I know Goths have long worn fem items, including beads, chokers and bags. I wonder if the 'mirls' aren't the opposite of goths, and prefer pink intead of black.

Hi Sally,

For a second there I thought, "Oh. this is the Austrailian answer to metrosexuals", but boy was I wrong. :)

If they are getting $50 a kiss from a GG they must be doing something right! :) =D> :)

That was a very fun article. :) Thanks for posting it!
