Casual Outfit for going to the Mall.

Hi everone,
I am curious what your most common casual outfit is when you go to the mall or to the grocery store? Do you wear skirts and boots or would it be something more like jeans and sneakers. I have noticed that a lot of women dress down quite a bit to go to the mall or grocery store so I have been wearing what I see others wearing. Also, what is your favorite pair of sneakers? My favorite pair currently is a really cute pair of pink and white adidas I just bought not too long ago but that changes quite often. Bye for now.

I think most of us here are students of the GGs around us... I know I certainly am!
Truth be know, I'm sure women look at other women regularly to notice what they are wearing too, I know my wife comments on that. Sometimes that's just the way fashion trends start, but for us CDs, it is important to have a feel for what most women wear while they go about their lives. I too notice most dress down while out shopping whether for groceries or at the mall. Certaiinly anyone could understand how much easier it is to pull on a pair of jeans and a top to shop in rather than skirt, hose, heels, etc.
I wear only womens jeans now, I love they way they fit and look so much better than mens. And, guess what? As long as they aren't the real embellished types... NO ONE NOTICES!
So, I'll run my weekend errands and shop at the mall wearing low rise, flare leg, womens jeans, and my favorite pair of sneakers that are white with a platform sole. And if the weather is not so good, I'll put on my misses long size jeans, and pull on my black boots with 3 1/2 inch heels. The long leg covers most all of the heel so it's not easy to see, but I love the feel and my walk in them.
So... keep watching others, Sarah and enjoy yourself!

Personally I like wearing a simple dress or skirt and top with flats. Of course unless there's another CD at the mall, I'm the only one in the place wearing a dress or skirt.

I've not been shopping enfemme, but would wear one of my jean skirts if I did (read: if my wife let me

)
I have one pair of fem tennis shoes, by Easy Spirit. My wife was with me when I tried them on and bought them. She wondered, as we headed out the door, why the receipt said "women's shoes", so I told her that's what they are. They are black in color and I wear them to work.

If you want to 'fit in', then you need to go the dress down route for shopping. Depending on where you go, just look around at what other women are wearing as your rule of thumb. There's nothing wrong with being individual and choosing your own style but if it is different from the norm, you can expect to get noticed (and not always in the nicest way).
I personally prefer a skirt over pants so I will usually opt for a denim one (like Donna suggested) as that is casual and wouldn't attract much attention. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with a pair of jeans. Jeans are probably the safest bet and should be a staple in any girls wardrobe. If your preference is a skirt though, choose either denim, or a longer one in seasonal colours such as dark or neutrals for this time of year, and you should be OK.

Great responses ladies,
I appreciate the great advise and for you sharing your outfit choices with me. I too would love to wear a jean skirt and a nice pair of boots to the mall or anywhere for that matter, I just havn't worked up the courage yet. I seem to have built my self up to going anywhere in womens jeans, tops, sneakers, etc. but have leveled off there. I just need to do it once and I am sure skirts will become a regular occurace. Paulie, I too have flare leg jeans and white platform sneakers that I like to wear to the mall and such. The shoes are made by Bongo and they are cool.
Stephanie: Do you shop a Cotton Ginny? I have been shopping there for a while now and find the sales people friendly. By the way, Your picture is amazing.
Do any ladies here where skechers shoes? A new outlet has opened in Vaghn Mills Outlet Mall near Toronto, I really like it there and they have great shoes.

One step at a time. Just let that confidence build gradually and you'll get there.

Thanks for the compliment SL. No, I haven't shopped at Cotton Ginny although I do look around there from time to time. We're lucky to have such a selection of stores in our fair city that sometimes we're spoilt for choice.

Actually bought my first pair of Sketchers (in pink and white) during last year's Winners fall sale and am just saving them for the warmer weather. Really cute!

Love ya,

Sorry, Virginia - No one will be taking you to the woodshed; how about the hayloft instead?

I'm looking forward to seeing Virginia in action; when are we girlfriends going to go shopping and find all those clothing bargains?

Thanks for the response Stephanie W. I am slowly building up confidenece and I truly hope it won't be long and I will be going all over town en femme in a nice skirt and blouse with a very cute pair of boots with nice heels. It is very true that Toronto has amazing stores for us to shop in. I too bought a pair of Sketchers premium white and pink shoes not too long ago. I just love them. They look so cute with my jean capris pants and pink top. How often do you go out en femme? Do you ever get together with a group of other ladies and hang out? Where do you like to buy your shoes?

Sarah Lynn:
I find the best way when I go shopping in the mall is to go for comfort.
While I would prefer to wear a skirt such as a jean skirt, which is both casual and dressy, the best thing to remember is to dress as the other girls will be.
This time of the year up here in Ontario, as you know the weather can change real quick, and also, get cold in a hurry.
During the winter I will usually wear a pair of dress slacks. They fit in well as i notice 99% of the girls are wearing slacks or jeans, but if you are shopping and want to try on a skirt or dress, that is no problem either.
Have a good time shopping, just wished i lived closer to Toronto to go shopping more

In a belated answer to your question, I go out about once or twice a month en femme. If opportunity allowed, I would definitely be out more but with my other priorities, I can live with that. Usually get out a bit more in the summertime. Yes, I have some other CD friends I hang out with and I particularly enjoy trying out new mainstream places.
As for shoes, good old Payless is where I usually go. Now if I was a size 10 or less, the world would be my shoe store! Shoe shopping is fun. Hey, ALL SHOPPING IS FUN!!!!

Right?

This past weekend my wife and I both went out shopping to various stores and the mall both in long jean skirts, tops, and casual jackets. My wife had on sneakers and I had on ankle boots. But yes most other people/gg's had on jeans or slacks.

Ok, ladies - time for this GG to join in!!
As I have commented in the
Dear GG section in reply to Steffie's question about wearing skirts vs pants while shopping - - the most important thing is for YOU to be comfortable with whatever you choose to wear while shopping. The more comfortable (and confident) you are with yourself, the less 'unwanted' attention will you draw.
Lately, when I'm going out shopping I've been wearing a skirt - knee length or shorter - denim or twill, a-line - coordinated pullover top or blouse, pantyhose of course, and for shoes? Well, I just have to be wearing one of my new pairs of 4 1/2" heels!! I love the way I look while wearing them, and they make my legs feel great, too. A fantastic way to get some exercise - shop while wearing 4 1/2" heels!!
Before you ask: Yes, I am one of the few 'younger gals' wearing a skirt while shopping, and as such I have gotten quite a few admiring looks - mostly from the men, young and old - and how did it feel? Absolutely wonderful!! Do the men 'bother' me? No - maybe because I'm on the cell phone talking with my favorite 'girlfriend' (shopping together long distance!)

- or maybe the guys are just intimidated because I'm projecting an image of confidence?
<shrug> I'm not interested in them, anyways!
Needless to say, this GG has been dressing up to go shopping - even if it's only for mundane groceries and sundries at Wal-Mart. I am woman - and I go forth and BE!! {I've been told that by my girlfriend before!}
