Hi all,
Jenney,
What Donna said!

(including the part about owning way, way too many shapely shoes...even though there are some folks here--GG's included--who would say you can never own too many shoes...)
The first time I bought heels for myself, I was petrified. As time goes by, you start wondering, "Why am I afraid to do this? It doesn't make sense. What am I afraid of? Being the recipient of a sour salesperson's frown? Really, who cares?" I've been buying shoes (and clothes and makeup and what have you) for a long time now and only once did I ever get the evil eye from the woman behind the counter (along with a prissy "these shoes are for women, you know!"). Tell you what, though, Jenney, that woman took my money anyway (all $3.99!); that's her job. One day, she just might judge one customer too many and find herself holding a pink slip (no, not that kind; the other kind

). Whenever you're in a size-12-high-heeled-shoe-carrying thrift shop again, Jenney, bring those babies up to the counter and smile, even though you're quaking inside. It does get easier with time. Here's a tip from a leading footwear manufacturer: "Just Do It!"
Pauline,
All the more power to you! Really, when you think about it, there's not that much to be embarrassed about; to us, it may be luscious lingerie but, to the person working there, it's just clothes. Congrats on lowering your "red-faced quotient," Pauline; if we only knew how many men buy lingerie (for whatever reason), we'd be embarrassed at our own embarrassment, I swear!
Press on, ladies, press on! Take a page from Jeannie's book: life is what you make of it. And time is fleeting.
Love,
CJ
