Is there really a growing awareness in society about transgendered people? Or is it just that I'm spending more time in this community where the positive articles tend to come to light?
I really hope it's the former and I can see why it might happen. Seeing just one or two positive examples of someone comfortable and "out" about their inner self really helped me become more comfortable with myself. It has made all the difference in wanting to take that next step and make additional inroads.
... and if that's all it takes, then I can see this snowballing fairly quickly as the closeted CD/TG/TS community becomes more visible. Hang on tight, girls, this could be one heck of a ride ...

I grew up in that town. It is a small city in central California that hangs on to it farm roots. I am glad that in that city which when I left I felt was very close minded. It makes me wish that when I was in high school I had found the courage to come out and be myself. Then again I am sure that when I was in high school I would have gotten stomped for being that open.

I guess I am just "off the plantation" tonight, but someone on this forum once querried, "What would we do if all of a sudden we (crossdressers) were totally and completely accepted by society?" Would the thrill still be there!?
I am glad that we have the pioneers, still willing to take the arrows and probably not in our life times will we be totally accepted or even understood for that matter, but what if????
I must express my theory - again! "We are the next stage in human evolution!"

It seems to me that the proliference of transgender stories of late should be a good thing. If the 'novel' factor' is removed and we are no longer perceived as rare then perhaps we could move about more freely in everyday society.
Virginia, I know I would still adore being dressed even if we were perfectly accepted. There are women who like to dress in a masculine fashion and there are women who adore all the trappings of femininity. I am pretty sure I know how I would present just given the chance.
I do hope the girl who was crowned Prom Queen is referred to as a girl and the boy who tried out for King as he in future.
