Transgendered DVD Rentals

Hi there,
I saw a great movie called Princesa. It is about a TS though. The story does have a twist. I didn't enjoy watching it with my wife as much as I did when I was alone because I didn't feel the need to prove, "That's not me!" (Meaning I don't want to transition)
Here is a link to a review. This review is a spoiler review.

Here is a link to another site that just gives a preview.
WARNING: This move is rated PG-13 and by some standards could be rated R. It is more for transgendered people than for SOs. SO's who are afraid of transitioning hubbies.. this would be scary for you to watch. My wife told me she didn't want me to get any ideas after I saw it.

The description does make it seem more adult, but it's not.
Hopefully people can post about other movies out there that are transgendered, but aren't known to the mainstream. Everyone knows about Tootsie and the Crying Game.
We'll see what happens.

Beauty, agreed, its a great TG-themed movie that has been somewhat overlooked by many of us. I own a DVD copy of this one.
Its a fairly recent independent production that doesn't exploit transgenderism but doesn't hide the harsh realities many of us face either. Definately worth a look-see. As an additional bonus, the movie was rather well made too -- I liked the grittyish look of the film which I believed contributed to the story -- no high-polish hollywood-artifical look here.
Some parts of the story didn't exactly fly with everybody so if you've seen this movie, feel free to comment!

I just got my support group newsletter and there was a TG movie they reviewed.
Gaudi Afternoon (2001)
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/GaudiAfternoon-1116054/
It got rotten reviews, but I'm going to check it out anyway.

I watched it last fall and I um . . . completely forget what it is about, so right there is a pretty frank review for you!

I look forward to your comments Beauty. Anyone else?
I would, however, like to thank the person who made the suggestion to me back then to see it!
PS: I saw "Princesa" again 2 nights ago. It was just as good the 6th time (I think) around as the first!

Hi Beauty and Alexandra!
I own Gaudi Afternoon on DVD and the TG person in that film is played by Marcia Gay Harden, GG, (of "Flubber" fame where she starred as Robin Williams love).
This film is beautiful to watch for the architecture and shots of Barcelona in the backround. It was only alittle disappointing to me in the end but other than that it was fine.
Synopsis: Judy Davis plays a translater who is conned out of her money by a pre-op TS looking for her(used to be his) daughter who was snatched away by the child's mother ( Lili Taylor).
Juliette Lewis also has a big part in this movie and IMO all do a superb job with their characters including the only male on cast.
The film does some injustice to the GLBT community as it sets up the two bisexual characters (one male, one female) to be portrayed as permiscuous, selfish and possible substance users/abusers.
I liked the idea of the romance between the Marcia Gay Harding and Lili Taylor characters and wish we saw more of it and less of the disfunction that we are submitted to in the film.
An interesting rent for anyone. Puts a new face to American families and I would have loved to see less fighting and a big happy reunion ending.
P.S.- Hey, Alexandra...you heard about this film from me..remember,silly girlie!

Lefty, I do remember but I didn't want to put you on the spot! LOL!!!
Yes, "Better than Chocolate" is a pretty good movie too . . . after wearing out the VHS copy (it jammed in the machine

) I bought the DVD. The TG character "Judy" does a great job here as does many of the GG characters. I won't spill the beans.
Thanks for bringing it up Lefty

-- many people will enjoy this one for sure.

I just watched the movie, "All Men Are Liars".
http://www.thateden.co.uk/prisoner/showa.htm#allmen
I give it a C+.
It was interesting. I believe the boy who CD's is actually a CD to start off the movie. Him getting to dress is a bonus.
The lead gal in the movie has absolutely GORGEOUS blue eyes.

Hi Lefty,
I rented "Gaudi Afternoon" I give it a 3 out of 5 stars. It wasn't boring or anything. The plot was kind of confusing, but I did enjoy the acting and the lessons learned by lead character.
I was surprised by "Better Than Chocolate". It was a good movie about love, acceptance and denial. I give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. The TS's love for the lesbian book store owner was very cute!

I also liked the mother of the lesbian lead character. It deserved the R rating.

lol!

Beauty, yes, you HAVE to see Hedwig . . . you may or may not like it, but you will be glad you DID experience it. Its a fun movie too -- probably in my TG top 5 for sure . . . in fact, I'd have a hard time choosing the better of either Priscialla, Queen of the Desert or Hedwig . . . IMO they're both quite good and I own them both.
I thought All About My Mother was quite good even though the TG part was secondary. How did you like it?
