Did anyone see "America Got Talent"? The Briny Spears look-a-like was great and is one of us. Hope she goes all the way.

Only caught bits and pieces of it, addicted channel changer that I am

so missed Briny. Missed the opera singer at the end too. The little 4 yr old girl was great, however.

The female judge seemed to show a lot of interest in Derick.

I've been doing a little reading. I could be wrong, but I thought AGT was for amateur performers seeking to make it to the bigs. In my research, I read somewhere that this Derrick Barry is a performer at one of the La Cage locations, which would make him/her a pro. That wouldn't be too different from my talent show days in the early 90s. Two of the bars I used to perform at had "talent contests" on different nights. The prizes invariably went to a guest performer from another club. It used to p*ss me off, royally, when I'd spend a couple weeks putting together a routine that people actually liked, then to lose to an established performer who shouldn't have been able to compete in the first place.

Jaye, I do believe Derrick Barry is more than an amateur, as he has a number of videos on youtube that gives this impression.
However, I don't believe an amateur status is required. At least I couldn't find any such requirement on the contestant entry form:

Amateur status is not a requirement. Last years winner was the man from here in the Dallas area. He had been performing for years before audictioning for the show.
I have a friend that builds Museum quality model railroad layouts. He has done this for over 20 years but he is NOT a professional modeler by trade.

Hey Everyone.
CarlyAnn and I were wondering if Derrick is still on the show? We are actually a little bored with the whole Reality Show thing. With the exception of Hell's Kitchen, Pussycat Dolls, Trump, and finally Farmer Needs A Wife. Anyway, I think we will check that one out.
Ok, I'll say it, She is HOTT. I'd quit my job and hang out at the beach all day if I looked that Real. Fortunately for my creditors, they don't have to worry about my payments. I won't be quitting my job anytime soon, no day long beach visits for me.
