Last weekend I was killing time around Sofia and happened to see a little shop that had some interesting looking skirts. So I stopped in to browse a little. The young lady was very helpful, encouraged me to try on several things, and I found a few that I liked. Their outfits were "designer", according to her, which basically means that they were very unusual, assymetric and certainly eye-catching. These are all hand-made here in Bulgaria, obviously by the same woman because it is very clear that she has a distinct idea how she likes to make clothes. So I decided on this very elegant black dress, and a very cute black skirt. They also had a blue-patterned skirt and top but the top didn't fit me well. So I decided I would get the black skirt and black dress. But the lady kept pestering me about the blue skirt and top, telling me how good I looked in it (sure-fire way to sell an outfit

) and insisting that I try it again. Well it turn out that when the top is pulled down off the shoulder then it fits me perfectly, so I just need to wear a cami or a bodice under it.
Which means that I bought it as well.
Anyway, I was so impressed with her sense of style, her willingness to press upon me her choices, and her cooperative and engaging attitude that I asked her to be my fashion consultant.
I've decided to purge my collection. I have some outfits that were purchased more because of price than anything else. So I need to get rid of the junk and only keep (or replace it with) stuff that I really like.
BTW, if anyone is in need of some really cute and well made, genuine leather boots, you should come to Bulgaria. They also have really cute shoes of every style imaginable, but you have to be careful to only buy the ones made here or you will get really really really cheap chinese crap.
Interestingly, my new fashion consultant seems to think that the clothes here are higher priced and lower quality than in the States, it just goes to show how the whole world had bought into the "US is the best" notion and it really is not accurate.
