When women allow men
I found this interesting. When women allow men to do a cloths make over. It was not what I expected.

Which just goes to show that, err....... when given the opportunity to display good taste we can, and also maybe that our taste for fashion is not the reason that we have to wear the clothes, as we didn't know that already.
Very interesting set though, wouldn't it be nice if this could become more mainstream, and more women accepted clothes advice from thier men, after all a lot of men are dressed by thier wives.

yeah, most men are dressed by their wives.
Well, I liked most of the outfits picked out by the guys here for their wives, I'm not sure why the ladies themselves didn't like them. What does that say about my taste???
But I think that a lot of the women are too afraid to be different, which is a strange thing to say since women's fashion is very diverse. It seems like there is some notion that they should stay away from anything unique, and just wear jeans and t-shirts all the time.
I didn't think the outfits were at all too revealing, or trampy, I thought they were actually pretty tasteful. Does that just prove that I know nothing about fashion?

That's an intersting idea, but since most men's bosses are also men, it kind of raises some questions. First, does my boss even notice or care what I'm wearing? I work for an engineering firm, and if you don't already know about engineers and fashion then you need to read some more Dilbert. Next, I have this interpretation that clothes are either about comfort or about sex. I can't wear clothes that are comfortable to work, the dress code prohibits that, and I really don't want to think about my boss and sex as related in any way. I'm probably not the only one with that interpretation, and I think that's why men dress to please their wives.should really be dressing to please their boss at work.
Now if I had a boss that was a hot babe, and she wanted me to wear a little red dress, 4" heels and fishnet stockings to work, then I would know that I was no longer on this earth.

It obviously has a lot to do with what kind of work you do. With manual labor job safety is paramount, nothing that will get caught in the machinery. However the book was oriented towards those in the corporate world. In general it talked about decisions such as what kind of tie to wear and the proper color of your suit. Interesting, dark blue in a business suit elicits the most deference. Perhaps this is because many police wear dark blue. Or perhaps dark blue was selected for police wear because it's an authority color.
In my experiences in the corporate world my boss was interested in two things about my clothing. First that it show deference to him, and 2nd that it place clients, with whom I had daily contact, at ease.
Office dress codes were a continuing source of resentment for me until I became self employed. Partly this had to do with a conflict of need-wear nice shoes to the office but be ready at all times to go visit a muddy construction site. Nice clothes cost money that I would rather spend somewhere else Another had to do with comfort. Years later I realized that low level Graves disease made every room seem about 5 degrees warmer to me than to everyone else, and made anything around my neck uncomfortable. Even more important was the whole ease of movement issue. Business attire is confining, and it's purpose is to demonstrate that you can not move comfortably enough to perform manual labor. But truthfully 90% of the conflict simply had to do with me not wanting to be told what to wear. CDing had nothing to do with this

maybe that rebel streak in you that refuses to be told what to wear does have something to do with your CDing, Absaroka.
I'm a little independent myself, that way.
I really have no problem wearing coveralls and steel toe boots when the circumstances demand it, and I'm perfectly comfortable in that if I need to do some physical work.
But I'm just as comfortable in a dress, stockings, and heels if I'm going out to dinner.
But I think most male "uniforms" are dictated neither by necessity, nor by comfort, nor by taste, but only by the need to conform to expectations. Maybe it's a way of saying "I can follow instructions and be a team player." The fact that the book was written explictly saying that men should dress for that reason seems to support the idea.

I am trying to persuad my daughter to listen to my fashion advise, I don't think it's as much that I'm male that stops her as that I'm so ancient - was I ever that young? - I'm looking to Gok for all the help I can get, after all he's a man!

Paula,
We are getting so close here girlfriend, talking back and forth, smooches. Show her a couple examples of the styles her friends and age group wear to reinforce you know what your talking about. I am a makeup fanatic and fix everyones makeup, girl or guy. Everyone loves to be pampered and helped. Also it is really fullfilling to help other people.
Hugs Vivian
