One woman i have always looked up to is Gillian Anderson (the woman who played Agent Scully in the X-files). I always loved the pant suits she wore, she always looked pretty smart in them. I once had a collection of pictures of her and she could look down right classy in a dress or skirt. I also loved the red hair on agent Scully.

Great thread! Interesting and thought-provoking responses so far, and I would love to see more people posting their thoughts.
I would love to be able to relate one day, Davita, with a smart/warm/compassionate/stable/fashionista wife. Those are more or less the exact qualities I'm looking for in a woman, and it would be a great and uplifting marriage if we were role models and inspirations for each other.
Anyway, hands down, my feminine role model is the adorable Zooey Deschanel. I love the casual girliness about her, yet she's a capable woman who holds herself well. Several other posts in this thread have made me realise that I do have other role models, though: I love the humble elegance of Kate Middleton and, to a slightly lesser extent, Jennifer Aniston. Come to think of it, my mum has a streak of that elegance about her too, so I guess it runs in the family a little bit!
I also have a couple of cousins whose styles I admire, as they dress with the femininity and humility of Zooey and Kate.

Very happy being a guy, but I also love fashion. We are all valued, and my feminine side is just one facet of the gem as a whole.

I'm sorry Martina, Hanoi Jane would be my last choice.

If I had to pick my single most important role model it would be my late aunt. She always dressed very fashionably, not loud or stand out but rather classy, elegant, yet girly. But also to me a role model is more than just fashion it is being a lady and my aunt was all that!
If you are looking for a more public role model I would have to say Katie Couric. Always dressed classy yet with a flirty side to it.

Re: Role models :)
Oddly, I have an aunt who died a while ago who's an important role model for me, both in male and female mode. She was both an intelligent and highly-grounded person and a caring one.
She wasn't very stylish - and there's no doubt that a lot of my perceptions about that have come from my mother (how original!), whose sensuality is a key part of the female part of me when she appears.
I have a big tendency to identify with women in films. And, in that regard, the sort of strong, self-defining figures Jane Fonda used to play did draw me in.
The singer/guitarist Bonnie Raitt has been one of my favourite of those figures "in real life" since her Nick of Time record over 20 years ago. That record saw her unveil a fully mature, 40ish, persona which I always found very attractive. It's kind of hard to pin down where my public models come from, but she's a felt one.

Re: Role models :)
When I was younger and not yet realising that being femme was part of me, I had this huuuuge crush on a particular actress. I waned to be like her, I wanted to wear her clothes. I loved her face, etc., and not in a adolescent sexual fantasy way. There was something about her that entranced me.
Say what you will about the current lot of sexy screen sirens, TV bimbos and music idols, but Sophia Loren remains to this day one of the most beautiful women alive, even at her age. She will be 80 years old next year and still as glamorous and inspirational as ever.
