False Nails for larger hands?

Post by Anne Bonny »

Anyone with large hands out there know where to obtain false nails that would fit? I have never tried false nails but would like to if I can get them on and then off again and have pretty French tips, or flashy red nails. Not talking anything weird just average length long nails. What adhesive should I use, can they be applied instantly then be strong enough to stay but able to be removed without much problem within a minute?

Hope somebody nails this one...

Guess I will shop online as that is what I am hoping for an online place to purchase them.

There is the first problem, Anne. Nice nails take time, artificial or real. Never within a minute, or even close. My hubby has pretty much given up on stick on nails. Like most men, his natural nails are wider and flatter in shape than a woman's. Glue doesn't hold well. He tends to tear them loose during potty breaks, hiking up hip forms.

Just for experiment, and the experience, try Kiss brand nails sold at most Walgreen's or CVS stores. The glue comes with. Extra nail glue is sold separately if needed. There is a glue remover also sold, but my resourceful guy uses cheaper acetone. Careful with that stuff though, it's harsh to say the least.

For feminine looking nails, length is less important than appearance. Nicely trimmed and a no flaw polish coat.

I see where Janet's Closet has the wide press on nails advertised on their site now. I tried Sally Beauty Supply they claim to have them in the store but didn't and I haven't ordered any from either.

Although I get a professional pedicure every thee weeks, I do my own nails, even if it's just for one evening's event. Here's how:

1. I use Kiss brand, and I trim and file a set in about 20 minutes.
2. Roll up tiny bits of tape and place all ten nails (in order) on paper. You have to know which on is which, right.
3. Paint the entire batch while they're laid out (two coats).
4. The next day (or whenever you're ready to wear them): First apply a thin coat of clear polish. Only use brush on nail glue (important). Firmly hold each nail in place for approximately 2 minutes.

Prepping the nails is quick and easy. When ready to wear them, with practice you'll be done in less than 30 minutes. Also, only on my very first attempt did I loose a couple, now none fall off. The best part is that when you're ready to remove them simply work the edge of the nail and they pop right off. After removal use a soft nail file to remove any excess glue residue still on the nail and there won't be any visible trace of your day en femme.

No acetone, clean, quick, and pretty.

Erin, glad you found them at your store I tried two different Sally's in two different states and they didn't have them at either one. Now my big questions is did they work for you were they wide enough? I have been going to try to order some but without seeing them it's hard to know if they would fit or not.

I do remember I called one store and they told me they don't have it (but I later found out they did, they wasn't aware I guess). Another store told me right away they stocked it. As if.

Anyway...

To be very honest, I have purchased it with other nail stuff and wasn't sure how to do my nails, so I went to the spa and had my nails done, only to look how they do it. Well then the nail spa bug bite me. Since that time I only go to the spa... :)

The widest size does fit me, however the nails are rather curved, our nails (male nails) must be flatter then female nails, so the tip needs to be flatten a little bit. I don't know if the glue is strong enough to hold the tip, otherwise perhaps the tip might need to be warmed up a little to bend easier.

Again I have not used the nail tips, so I am not sure. But they do fit, and are for sale at Sally. I still have one full box, and probably for ever. #-o

Thanks Erin, my problem is I work on lots of things around here and wind up with hang nails and having to cut or file them so it is difficult to have long nails...my guy side keeps messing them up!!! I have them clear coated on my fingers but my natural nails barely extend past the tip of my fingers. I suppose my guy side is just too rough, just came in from trying to inflate front tire on my riding mower, either that or something else around here yesterday I was in the garage helping my son get a motorcycle tire on it's rim since he and his friend wound up blowing out the bead using some kind of dangerous method with a lighter and flammable gas - $124 blown, I had the tire on there in 10 minutes to my son's shock! He went and inflated it came back and told me the tire was on there BACKWARD!!! No joke there were arrows on the blasted tire to show which direction to install the tire on the rim - I was flabbergasted! You even have to line the tire up with the blasted tire valve. Well we got it off put it back on the right way but In the middle of It all I had to come inside and take off my girly stuff I was soaking wet with sweat, kept my pretty white tennis shoes asics pretty and clean which is what prompted me to stop and go change I was getting wet with sweat. Girls are not meant to do such things especially if they have their good stuff on! Should have changed to guy stuff. one of my gel pads fell out.... Fortunately I did not get any heavy black smudges on my pretty things...shorts and a light green t shirt from a 5k run that is too pretty for my guy side to wear so I let Anne wear that one. Bra wet...oh well. I don't do that kind of stuff every day but I do all kinds of things like that working on who knows what to keep the house and the yard maintained.

I see you're point Anna, but gloves can be a friend. I do work at the Railroad and wear gloves, mandatory anyway, but it does help protecting my nails. Mine are not really long, but not to short either. Between 1/8 to less then 1/4 pass the tips.

When I was a car mechanic, back in the days. I definitely would not have been able to have nails, not even clean guy nails... LOL

I had my share of tire mountings/repairs etc.

Like you Anne, I do a lot of physical stuff which takes a toll on my hands. Additionally, I don't present as a woman full time so growing out my nails even a small bit just doesn't work out.

Using my usual method I had pretty nails on for a few days last week. I had to work onsite with one of my clients this week so it's been 100% male thus far. However, given that I'll be working from home en femme the next couple days I'm doing my nails now, which will come off Saturday morning for chores. It's a pretty simple process, and I'm interested to hear how it works out for you if you give it a try.
