Wood flooring and heels

My wife and I are putting down hardwood wood flooring on the first floor (work together, play together, stay together).

The other day, I had my heels on and she asked me not to wear them on the new floor. I didn't see any damage being caused, but she said I had other options.

I guess that means I can go by some wedges or larger width heel heels

I do have a pair of wedges about 28 years old, but the leather is starting to crack. They are black with gold trim and don't go with my maid's uniform.

Oh, and she just bought a large area sculptured wool rug off of QVC for the dining room when we finish it, and I know she'd have a fit if I wore my heels on it.

Has anyone had a problem with heels damaging wood flooring? Note that I do weight almost 270 pounds (lost 18 in the past month, yea!).

I know exactly how your wife feels, my husband and I had hard wood floors put in our house also. I am petite, and I wear high heels very often, but I try to have everyone who enters our home (including myself), take off their shoes when they enter (any kind of shoes, as dirt can also do damage to floors)

Well, since I am very petite (o.k. very short ), I am 4' 10" and weigh 95 lbs., if your heels are damaged in any way they can really wreck your floors just the same.

I agree, I don't think heels by themselves will harm the floor, however any shoe with a foreign object imbedded in them can damage floors.

Hi Donna,

All I can say is that if you are putting your weight on the heel of high heel shoes, the floor will soon be the least of your concerns. I think you will find that you don't really put much weight on the heel itself, because if you did, you would have already fallen or hurt your ankle with a sideways bend.

Having said that, I grew up with hardwood floors, while all the rich people had carpet. I don't like hardwood floors, they are cold. they are well?? they are hard. And they are a ton of work. They are easy to slip on, and you have to refinish them almost anually if you want them to stay looking good. I think it would be best if you just got rid of them, and then you could wear what you want? Laff....

I doubt your wife will agree though, so you better just do as she asks.
Having nice floors is consitent with having a nice and accepting SO.

Went to Payless shoes this morning at Potomac Mills Mall, VA. The lady sales rep said they were having a nice sale, buy two pair get one pair free.

Got 3 pair - sandle style (4.25", 4" and 3.5" heels). Two have the strap around the ankle, and they barely reach, one of which is very hard to reach and probably very hard to get off fast if necessary.

All are fine for wood floors.
