USA-NBC program "Dateline" recently exposed the Creams, Potions and Lotions industry. A British Chemist explained that the majority of high priced creams, lotions and potions were nothing more than a basic formulae that hydrates the skin (holds in moisture causing the skin to plump and look fuller). Further, he compared the idea to using "lard" on the face to do the same thing. Of course, these products are designed not to clog the pores of the skin, where frequent use of "lard" would require a very thourough scrubbing each day.
In the USA, our Federal agency, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for monitoring the industry. They do not seem to be bothered unless there are sufficient complaints filed against a manufacturer over a specific product. Otherwise, it is buyer beware!
So, forget all that hype girls. I use a very basic chemistry product from Johnsons. Their 24 hour moisturizing lotion gentle enough for babies. It works. It holds in moisture, plumps the skin and makes me look radiant. No $250.00 rejuvenating creams, lotions or potions for me. They do not really do anything except take your money honey and keep taking it. Oh yes, they "plump" your skin like my $2.50 bottle of Johnson's 24 hour moisturing lotion does but really that is it.
Anything that would really go into the skin is heavily regulated as a controlled substance by the FDA. You need a Doctor's prescription for anything that can really effect your body's cell structure. Most items on the open market are anything more than topical agents. Our Federal government does not trust us to know how to use things that really work for the most part. Besides, it has created a very highly lucrative business for the medical community.
Johnson's 24 hour moisturing Lotion.....about $2.50 for 9 oz. bottle. Many fine stores including Walmart, Kmart, etc carry this product.
I remember what my Chemistry Professor told me, "if it sounds to good to be true, then it's from the cosmetic and beauty industry!"

You are right - young lady! One of the SO's posted several months ago that if you use a good soap, OLay, Dove and gently wash your face twice a day, then moistureize, moistureize, moistureize you can develop or maintain a nice complextion - it works! I am, well,, old enough to know better, and it does work. I am however guilty of using aseveral moderately priced moistureizers, but that is my choice and I get them on sale so. Of course good genes are a benefit also. Take care of your skin and as Elizabeth pointed out in a recent post, it is something that we can do for ourselves and actually see the results and most of us enjoy doing it.

In case anyone has missed this information posted elsewhere.
1/4 cup plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon chopped horesradish, blended to gether then liberally applied to the arms can and does over time, fade the brown spots that appear with age. It also will help even out the "tan" that is fading from the skin in the winter. Again, for it too be safe, it must occur over time gradually. This is safe for the majority and it will not effect ay naturally darker skined individuals. It only aids in the removal of surface skin cells and promotes the growth of new cells.
You can pay dearly for chemical equivelents in a variety of topical names. Or, you can just use this simple formulae. For the face, use only 1/2 to 1 teaspoon chopped horseradish with the yogurt and keep it out of your eyes!
Let the mixture dry then rinse and remove with a facial cloth (wash cloth). Feel your skin for supple texture.....nice!
