OK, since we are on the subject of holding up hosiery, I just want to complain now that it is impossible to find a garter belt that will work with thicker stockings. I have quite a few pair of knitted stockings (not nylons, although I have those too) that I really like to wear with a skirt or dress when it's cold. My garter belts have these flimsy little clips that are fine for nylons but useless for anything thicker. Every garter belts I've seen uses the same kind of clip and they just don't work with thick stockings. Now I know I'm not the first person in the world to come up with the idea of wearing thick stockings when it's cold, so why can't I find a decent garter belt?

Ralitsa folks like Rago still make shapewear with metal garters that are removable. You could buy one, take the garters off, and sew them onto the garter belt. Better yet you can probably buy just the metal garters without the shapewear.

Go to the thrift shops. I've found several of the heavy metal clip type garterbelts and girdles there.

I own a rago high waisted clincher and the clips are made out of heavy metal, never had a problem of any kind with stockings. Clips can also be changed out if you like.

I'm hearing "clips" on the garterbelts, but are we talking about things like alligator clips with teeth or are we talking about the loop and nubs type? All my experience has been the loop and nubs and plastic loops certainly don't last. Both the plastic and the metal hold any of my stockings, but I don't buy think ones. All my thing hose are tights.

Anyway, back to the garterbelts... My real problem with garterbelts are finding the garters long enough. If I can't find hose long enough, then the garters need to be that little bit longer. What a science! So many variables

... garterbelt fitting around the waist snug enough to not slide of less fem hips, but not so tight to strangle me, garters long enough to reach the varied length of stockings, clips/clamps/grippers that work, stockings that look good, fit correctly and don't run when you cough. I'm so glad to be a woman

that's the big question. The garter belts I have are all the loop and nub type, and they are fine for nylons, but useless for thick stockings like you want to wear in Wisconsin in the winter. So I'm looking for the alligator clip type, but not having much luck finding them.
I'm almost getting to the point where I'm going to velcro my stockings to my skirt.

Ain't nothin like a Girdle over the pantyhose to hold all sorts of things in place

Only downside is the time it takes to go to the bathroom but hey....it ain't always easy to be free?

More info on men wearing hose. I think some authors hope it will catch on but it hasn't in a big way. Perhaps slowly. Certainly many many men wear hose underneath but don't say anything whether a CD or not.

Men in pantyhose may well become acceptable albeit very slowly.

I was out walking with my wife recently and she drew my attention to a runner in shorts wearing hose on his legs

I already is. I wear pantyhose or tights all the time, and I'm acceptable. You are only subject to the fashion opinions of others if you accept their opinion. And I only accept opinions that agree with mine

The Breast Form Store sells a roll on glue for breast forms. It works on Thigh-Hi stockings too.
