That was the style back then Annie, I even remember having a Farrah Fawcett style wig back then, think the infamous poster. A friend of mine and I were looking through some old pictures of way back when once and she commented on the hair of that era and even into the 80's saying "I remember those days when my hair was big and my butt wasn't!"Annie wrote:
Then there were Charlie's Angels. I always thought that would be pretty to wear. Not so sure about the hair though.

I forgot the LOL at the end of that statement. For it's time, I agree it was the style. Yes, I admit I had the poster too.
I did like the clothes then. If I was younger and maybe in better shape I think I would like them.
Not sure a 60 y/o in those shorts and mini skirts would be an image that nightmares are made of.

Re: What if?
Styles and fashions change as do the infamous "fashion rules." I can remember when no woman would be caught dead in white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day, not anymore. About the only one of those rules that still exists is never wear white to a wedding unless you are the bride. Back when I was first out and about most of women's dress shoes were sandals or open toed. None of us would be caught dead without hose on. I can remember even wearing slacks and knee high nylons with sandals. Times change!
As those rules have disintegrated into dust so has some of the beliefs on how the "mature" woman should dress. Think back to how your mother or grandmother dressed as you were growing up. There was almost this "matronly" style and stores that catered to it. Back then a mother would never think of shopping for clothes in the same store or department as her 21 year old daughter or vice versa let alone her grandmother. Not anymore! Today it is more aboiut what looks good on you, your taste and personal style, and lifestyle.
I am 64 or at least the calendar says so. I have skirts and dresses of varying length from maxi to above the knee. No I don't wear miniskirts out and about but I think you all understand what I am getting at. I am sure there are some who think "Why don't you dress your age Diana?" Frankly my dear I don't give a damn! I wear what I think looks good on me and fits the occasion and if that is the best they have to gossip about I feel sorry for them.

Wonderful! At 61 I will take it. Right! there are young twenty something fashions...but it does not mean I have to dress like granny either! I am taking my cues from other women my age when I buy clothes to wear and they do have to work for me too. There are lots of pretty clothes, and ways to style yourself even at 61 women do carry on looking beautiful attractive and stylish it even helps them to defy age in looks and lifestyle!
Go with the flow

I think the most important phrase in Diana's reply is:
then a while later seen a teenaged girl or a 20 something wearing similar to the other women and think to myself "Didn't she look in the mirror before they left the house?"
The art is understanding your body type, what looks good on you to others on you, and dressing accordingly. IMO it is not a factor of age within reason so when deciding what to wear or buy. Look in the mirror not at your birth certificate.
I have seen women in their 40's and 50's, or at least I assume that to be their ages, in an outfit and think that looks good on themDiana Michelle wrote:

I've always loved the fashions that the elegant women of the 1940's wore...you see them in all the World War II-period movies...dresses were slim and tailored at the top , which beautifully accented the breasts...slim and long-waisted, with the length reaching a couple of inches past the knee...pair that with real nylons (with the seam up the back, of course) and a pair of pumps with about a 3-inch heel - and Voila! Classic beauty!

Re: What if?
We were on vacation last week at a campground and I remarked to my wife that times certainly have changed. She said she was thinking the same thing and was appalled at what the women were wearing. She could not believe what was "hanging out" on some of the women and wondered if they either had no regard for their appearance or if they just wanted the shock value of they were wearing.....
I told her it was a campground, and her response was that she still thinks there is a modicum of décor that should be followed.
She was really right.
