Tips for “feminizing” your hands
There’s very little you can do about your hands in terms of changing their size or shape. The following tips might help them appear more “feminine,” though.
1. Do professional or at-home manicures. The nicer your manicure, the more “feminine” your hands will seem.
2. Consider a nondescript nail length and color. Long nails (especially acrylics) and bright polish can often draw unwanted attention to your hands or seem very drag queen-ish.
3. Exfoliate your hands daily and use moisturizers. Shea butter is the best, if you ask me!
4. A paraffin hand kit can also help your hands and fingers look smooth and feminine.
5. Epilate any hair from your fingers, hands and wrists, if you have any. Use a rotary epilator or wax, don’t shave.
6. Some people’s hands are a different color than their arms. This can make hands stand out. If your hands are red or chapped from your work, try the steps above. If your hands are darker or more freckly than your arms, consider a fade cream. If your hands are lighter, try a little bronzer or self-tanner so they match.
7. Keeping veins from protruding can help minimize how noticeable your hands are. If your body temperature is cooler, the veins usually don’t show as much. You can also minimize veins temporarily by keeping your hands above your heart. Reach as high above your head with one hand and let the other hang at your side for a minute, then compare them side by side. The one that was in the air will look smoother.
8. Long sleeves that extend past your wrist, as well as wide sleeve openings can make your hands seem smaller.
9. Avoid overstated bracelets, rings, watches and other accessories that might draw attention to your hands. However, some oversized bracelets may make your hands appear smaller, the way wide sleeve openings can.
Finally, hold up your hands palm-to-palm with a few friends. I think you’ll find that your hands aren’t really that big in comparison, and that a lot of your self-consciousness is in your head. Between that, your size, and the steps above, your hands should not be an issue!
