Hi Felicity
Fort Lauderdale is my stomping grounds also, and its VERY girl-friendly. Of course, like any city, there are areas to avoid but easy to see. We have great laws here so using the ladies room is not a problem at all, but its always best to follow everyone's advice and just go in, do what you have to and leave. Heres a few nice places (Wilton Manors is so totally safe and friendly to us).
Have a light dinner at Rosies prices are good, food is great and can be from zero to 10 or so of us there!

Across the street is "New Moon" its a lesbian bar but very nice to us. Dancing and music

Lips is a fun place, but without reservations its best to sit at the bar and watch the show...a lot of fun!!! And they have daytime things on the weekend like Bingo and Sunday Gospel brunch (go figure)

For an inexpensive start or evening end try the Peter Pan Diner for good food and its a friendly place we go to a lot.

As far as spas, I dunno, the beauty shop I use is south, down in Hollywood, but I'm sure Phyliss will know!
Oh and further west is Secrets...you can give them a call and ask about spas and such. I've been there a number of times and they are nice people.

Theres so many places to go here and not just GLBT places. Most are used to us so just wander the beach and stop in an ocean front bar.
I just named a few to get you started, so have fun down here!
Hugs
