commissioned a new dress

I found out a couple days ago that a lady who tends bar occasionally at a place I hang out also does a lot of sewing. She gave me her card and told me it's her side job. So I decided to have her make me a dress. This morning I went over to her place and picked out a pattern I liked, and looked through her box of material and she happened to have a teal fabric with gold embossed leaf prints. So I was pretty excited to find that. The only problem, I'm leaving for Bulgaria again and won't be back for a month, so I have to wait until a month before I can wear it.
And in other news, I picked up my new rifle today, a .300 win mag. This is a serious rifle, I can't wait to do some target shooting with it.

That is very nice, teal is a colour that suits me. I hope you will post a picture of you in it when it is finished.

Sounds rather exciting, having something made specially for you. I like teal, but unfortunately whenever I hear the word it always reminds me of 1970's British Leyland, who used to put all thier promotional cars in "Teal Blue" or some sort of National Health Hearing Aid beige.

Good question, Donna. I was going to ask what does a modern girl wear to kill targets or in my case wound them a lot.

Shooting in Bulgaria with your .300 win Mag? That country was the source of some of the Soviet's KGB most brutal assasins and arm breakers.

I will definitely post pics of my new dress when it's finished. The Annie Oakely look would be good, if I could pull it off, but I doubt I have either the looks or the marksmanship skills. In reality, I have trouble hitting anything except air. But I keep pretending that if I get a nicer rifle I will be able to hit the target
Anyway, it's a lot of fun to try. I suppose what I like most is the challenge, it's so incredibly difficult to hit a tiny piece of paper at some ridiculously long distance, that when it happens it's pretty exciting.
So, stay tuned... in about a month you will see me in my new dress with my .300 win mag.

I tried it on yesterday, it fits perfectly. She just has to put the finishing touches on now. It should be ready by tomorrow. Stay tuned for pictures.

IT'S HERE!!!
It looks great, fits perfect, and feels absolutely amazing. A picture, (only one so far) is in the photo gallery.
I just love it, and she only charged me $40 for it, which is less than 1/2 of what I was expecting. It's a very light, stretchy, wrinkle proof fabric that will be perfect for travelling, and is incredibly comfortable.
She also gave me 2 of her old dresses which don't fit her anymore, one of which I wore today. And I liked that one so much I'm having her make me another one like it with a different material. That one should be ready in time for summer, then I'll have her start on my fall dress, and after that a nice winter dress........

Looks like a nice fit, especially the hard part, around the shoulders.
Snaps or buttons?

thanks everyone
She and I were both surprised it fit so well, especially the shoulders and the sleeves, like Donna said. It has all buttons, and the button holes took her a long time because the fabric is stretchy. The great thing is the pattern she used has several variations, so I can get a few more in different materials and different sleeves, necklines, etc.
So girls, I highly recommend finding someone who can custom make things for you, it's definitely worth the wait.
