Not that I am contemplating this lately but it struck me, how many are using or contemplating perfume use?

I use perfume everytime I go out for the evening. I have three that I have found that I like.

It is a bit touchy on how much to put on. I've come across some women that use too much and you can smell them from ten feet away. So I error on the side of too little rather than too much. I'm also about an hour away from my destination so by then the smell is not as strong.

After I bathe I use a fragrant body cream that softens my skin and adds to my scent. Smelling good is just as important as looking good and IMHO makes one feel very feminine.

I've been using perfume for years drab and en fem. Before I was dressing I preferred the fruitier and sweeter men's scents anyway. Just today I was in Macy's killing a few minutes before my appointment. I was browsing the "fine fragrance" counter when one of the sales ladies noticed. I was drab, but that doesn't stop me. She asked if I needed anything. I just told her I was just killing a bit of time. So as she turned to walk away I called her back. "umm yes, Do you have any samples of this one?" and I held up the spray. She looked and said the samples are in the back. So I told her it didn't have to be that one in particular but I wanted one that smelled like it at least. She came back with 5 different samples for me. One I noticed in particular and I held up the bottle from the counter and told her that it was close. She smiled, "good" and told me to enjoy myself. I thanked her and was on my way.

I also use perfume everytime I go out dressed and often even if I don't go out. I have 3 different ones that I use regularly and a couple others I borrow from my wife once in a great while. It took a while for me to find the perfumes I liked and wanted to wear. Interestingly, different perfumes are sometimes a topic at my hair salon.

This is a common problem that many women have (and some men, too), mostly because they've never been properly taught how to apply perfume or cologne. Most perfume/cologne wearers are under the mistaken belief that they need to smell their perfume/cologne, when in fact it's meant for everyone else to smell. After a few minutes, most wearers cannot smell it themselves because they have already adjusted to the scent (so the wearer puts it on again, or heavier, in order to smell it themselves, and this is why they reek of it).

The proper way to apply either perfume or cologne:

Hold the perfume/cologne bottle while your arm is extended in front of your body, and lightly spray the scent into the air once; you can also very lightly spray it twice, once each at shoulder and waist levels. Wait a few seconds for the 'mist' to drop downwards, then walk into the mist.

This serves to not only spread the scent over more of your body, but will also help prevent the wearer from smelling like they marinated in it - and everyone around the wearer will appreciate that more than anything else.

I use a femme body spray when I am going out. My wife has a sensitive nose and I am sure she would notice if I used a perfume or cologne.

I have not had any complaints using this.

I'm also fond of a light touch of perfume for an evening out. I quite like Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue and have been using the application technique SilverLady describes since I started.

My wife was quite startled to discover that I actually like perfume because I've frequently complained about scent abusers in the past. There's just a huge difference between the subtle application of something delightful and dousing yourself in it. If you're making other people's eyes water you need to rethink your technique!

I too use a perfume when I go out, I got mine in a goody bag from Lancome and realy like it, just a dab so that I don't smell too manly!

I have thought about getting some perfume, but so far I have just got a body spray. Technically I am not sure the difference other than body spray is a lot cheaper.

The best advice I got about perfume was from my SO and its exactly what SL said. Before that I would just spray on my dress, neck, arms etc which probably made me smell like a tart (and nothing wrong with tarts). Some people really overdue it, some at work are really bad. So go lightly girls....and maybe a spritz in the linrerie drawer isn't that bad either

Inquiring minds would like to know: what was the scent? Apple? Cherry? Pineapple?

Personally, my favorite is Pineapple!

I have a couple of friends that are very allergic to most perfume bases, so I use a floral water when I am going to be around them. Ii isn't strong and decreases rapidly with evaporation. Walk through a cloud of that and it is good, and it doesn't get into eyes or taste bad like some perfumes can. And it does not send my friend into anaphylactic shock, or give her hives.
