Is pantyhose making a comeback?

My sister and I had a meeting today wth my mother's doctor and social worker, in case you are unaware she has Alheimzer's. Her doctor is female as is the social worker but the last two meetings both hd worn slacks as had my sister. Don't know what got into my sister but she had on a skirt with hose and heels when I picked her up, very out of character for her. I wore a long denim skirt with a black turtleneck sweater and black boots. I was stunned when we walked into the doctor's office, both she and the social worker had onskirts and sheer pantyhose, not tights! The doctor had on a cute pair of ballet flats, she got them at DSW because I asked her, and the social worker a pair of boot very similar to mine with a 3" spike heel. After the meeting Sharon and I stopped for coffee aswe usually do to discuss the nextphase for Mom. We also talked about how the other 2 women were dressed today. Sharon said what shocked her was the pantyhose althogh she did say she heard it was making a comeback.
Is pantyhoe coming back into fashion?

Probably due to colder weather?

Of my friends that wear any hose, all but one wears pantyhose or tights. Yesterday, had a beautiful black weave -- they could be called hose or tights. Today another had a print pattern pair of tights. I know both wear pantyhose. Ssooo what I'm getting at is that pantyhose never went out of style; the girls are just more selective about when they wear them.
I almost wore tights myself because the office is so cold. Today I managed to wear over the knee socks, which for me are at the knees where I needed to be warm in the first place.

I'd have to say they're continuing to go out of style, myself. Walgreen's is where I buy mine, and the selection was fairly big when I started buying them in 2001. Now it's shrunk to what? a quarter of that? I also heard an interview on NPR during the BP oil spill, with a company that specialized in turning old pantyhose and other materials into oil containment barriers. The guy being interviewed said that they had a hard time getting pantyhose, and he pointed out that "Crossdressers are the only ones keeping us going," and he laughed. I think the company might have been based here in San Francisco, so he probably knew more about CDs and drag queens than the average company rep might.
Googled "do women still wear pantyhose?" and got one forum where the consensus was that they were still best in formal settings where one needed to wear a dress. One gal said they were coming back. A younger woman said that 20s-30s age women didn't tend to wear them. Another forum poster also said that younger women don't wear them, for fear of looking old-fashioned.

I think it's true that younger women don't wear them for fear of looking old fashioned, or even just old. I think older women wear them when they wear a dress or skirt, but very few do that.
Once just out of curiosity I was in the airport and decided to calculate whether there was a higher percentage of women wearing skirts than men. The men won. I was the only one, but there were no women wearing them
But I do know some younger ladies who prefer skirts or dresses because they see it as being different from the older generation. So I wouldn't be surprised if PH are also making a recovery.

Making a comeback? where had they gone? My 15 year old daughter and her friends all wear them, perhaps a reflection of this is a piece I heard on Women's hour recently that tights (panty hose for the colonials) are very fashionable this autumn and winter.

Paula, I agree with that. There are loads of young girls here wearing them, with short shorts mainly! Although I have seen some with dresses/skirts. Hope springs eternal...

I always see Women in my nearest city wearing tights, this time of year. I never see Women in my workplace wear them these days.
I have to say that if I were a gg I would wear them all the time in the office and I would certainly wear them to a Christmas party prefarably black or nearly black with a black dress to die for and matching shoes and handbag.

I agree with you. Tights/Pantyhose/Stockings produce that finishing touch to your experience, and they feel so good too!

For many of us it never left so how can it make a comeback? I see many professional women come in for breakfast or lunchand surprisingly many of them never wearing hose. I know it presents a more polished look and I think many women deep in their hearts know it as well. Not sure I have seen no increase in pantyhose wearing but here in Michigan as the weather cools I see a lot more women wearing tights.

As long as this gal is alive pantyhose will survive.

Don't like panty hose, Thigh highs or a garter belt.

Pantyhose seem to be more popular in Europe and Asia than here in the US anymore. I've been patiently waiting for a comeback, but other than some black opaque tights this winter here in the Rocky Mountains, haven't seen much other than bare winter white legs/feet in shoes or flip flops.
Was hoping the foreign fashion of shorts and pantyhose would catch on here. lots of good pics on the net.
I adore a lady in nylons, listening to the swish, the click of high heels and am mesmerized by a nice nyloned foot.
I started wearing my mom's nylon stockings in the third grade when she had me empty her waste basket which had one black and one tan stocking with runs. I wore them with the runs in the back and McGivered some rubber bands to hold them up! Over time I accumulated a nice selection thinking it was a secret but mom was smarter than I thought...then one day when pantyhose became popular she told me to go empty her waste basket and winked -viola! there was a new package of pantyhose in it...took about 30 seconds for me to put them on and have been enjoying pantyhose ever since. They feel soo good, so I have worn nylons 24/7 for many years now and only date women who wear nylons also. Haven't had many dates lately....argh
